I have been working at Toshiba America Business Solutions full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Toshiba name is know world wide for quality and can help when you are out making 50 cold calls a day. The office laptops are good and the office is clean. The office administrative staff is seasoned.

    Cons

The branch manager will say anything and promise the world to get people to join. His pre hire story is one of great goals and hope. The reality is that once you get on board and realize you can't make any money, he gets upset when questions are asked about " all the people who succeed or the job he promised". The current customer base is very small and moving away from Toshiba. The morale of the reps is awful. The sales bull pin is filled with people complaining behind the managers back about the quota and lack of support. The support people are new or overworked. Do not sign a document without getting the quota, territory and all the promises in writing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should have HR involved in the hiring process to keep the manager from tricking people to sign up. Updated your training program from the 1970's bull pin practices. The sales team matters.

    Pros

Lots of nice employees. Good technology (the support is questionable).

    Cons

No real customer focus, unless the customer is a very large buyer. Threats and intimidation are the standard motivational tools. Very frequent and complicated changes in pay structure. Best performers are compensated well, but the average rep is threatened and belittled. If you aren't in the top 20% of performers, you will want to leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get realistic. Not everyone will be a top performer, but that doesn't mean they aren't of value. Treat all customers well, not just the biggest buyers.

    Pros

Great company name that is recognized when prospecting for new business. Nice office location. Toshiba Corporate is well respected.

    Cons

The compensation program is poor at best with few if any sales representatives hitting the quarterly bonus. Even the tenured representatives do not hit the quarterly plan. Turn over is extremely high as quota are based on a fake customer base. Meetings are of little help and no sales manager is present to help train the new representatives on how to sell the products. Marketing is completely up to the sales representatives as none is done by the company. Support for the sales team suffers as continued cuts are made to the support staff. Make sure you ask detailed questions in the interview process and get all "promises" in writing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be fair in the explanation of the potential pay for the first year. If you train you will keep the better representatives. Do not just copy the training program from other locations but also copy the pay plan and structure. Not having a sales manager to save money is a loss in the long term.

    Pros

Very structured sales process and work environment can give new younger employees a good first step into business and how to cold call

    Cons

Turnover is extremely high. Monthly quotas are very hard to hit, especially when good accounts have already been cherry picked from your territory by other sales reps. Good sales people who land a nice account also risk losing that business to more senior sales people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring friends for management jobs that obviously have no clue what they are doing and cant help newer people in their daily functions

Horrible! Base pay is 30K...its not worth the hassle...they say you can make money if you stay for a few years

I have been working at Toshiba America Business Solutions full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The initial training is decent..the only positive thing is that you truly find out more about yourself and how much you can handle it when life gets rough.

    Cons

No leads given, horrible base pay, They tell you how amazing and easy it is but its not. They say that you can make money after several years but for 30K, noone can survive on that income.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More base pay!

I worked at Toshiba America Business Solutions

    Pros

This started out very well as a job after my last employment, the training was good but they did not continue to invest in their employees

    Cons

This was absolutely the worst company to work for. They don't treat their employees well during or after employment. They screwed me out of well earned money in commissions during my employment there and did not pay me my severance after I submitted my two weeks and was told I could leave then. They do not do honest business with their customers, I would advise anyone to not do business with them or work for them.
