    The TAIS ship is sinking

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Irvine, CA

    Prosgood location in Orange County.

ConsWhere to begin... cubes that are 6x6 with no sunlight, parking is horrendous, complete restructure of the benefits and salary without a warning, have to reapply for your own position. toshiba is scrambling to figure out how to save money and its thru cutting employee benefits/salary. I would not doubt if they just pack up and leave Irvine in a few years.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive up the US market.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Large company, Ok place to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAble to work on some intereting projects and technology. Benefits were good. They try to retain employees.

ConsDirect management. Lack of clear goals and objectives. Many people have been there a long time, so it is difficult to move up / be promoted.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    ConsBig time boy's club
there is a caste system and most groups do not share important information

They don't make them like this anymore

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Irvine, CA

ProsToshiba is a great palce if you are looking for a compnay to stay at for 20 plus years. Once you are in, stay focused and next thing you know it's been 10 years, then 15 and so on. It's a secure job.

ConsNot much room for advancement and most employees have done the same job for 10+ years. With that said most employees don't care to advance and jsut want to do the smae thing forever and it's a great fit if that's what you want.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry being creative and don't steal your employees ideas. Management is all about CYA and that's gets old real fast.

When it was good, it was good....when bad, it was extremely BAD!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Irvine, CA

ProsThe Japanese people are amazing outside the office. They are very invigorating with their thirst for adventure and american knowledge.

ConsThroat cutting and back stabbing by of all people ... management! Supervisors taking credit for their employees good jobs or ideas. Blame and finger pointing when times are bad.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave not worked there for some time now however, seems like nothing has changed. WOW!

Stay away from this place unless you need $$ Only take as temp job and please find something better!

IT-Windows Systems Administrator - Contract (Former Employee) Irvine, CA

Pros-In nice area behind Irvine Spectrum. Close, easy access to freeways
-close to major malls, shopping, dining areas
    -decent cafeteria

    Cons-micro-management, heavily scrutinized
    - overworked, small teams, no work/life balance, FTE on vacation needed to bring laptops
    - management likes to talk down on employees, low morale in teams.
    - not so innovative technology for a global company, data center was small and ran hot.
    - Have to wear many hats even primary job is different
    - no growth for the mind and $$
    - lays off are present too
    - Lead Windows Administrator was very difficult to work with: ( abrasive attitude, Intimidating)

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees better and don't run a " too lean" shop. Hire more people to cut down the stress load. Hire a new " Lead Windows Admin/Engineer !!!

TAIS - Not what is supposed to be as Toshiba is a global company.

Windows Systems Administrator - Contracted for Three Months (Current Employee) Irvine, CA

ProsIf you live in Orange County , CA Nice because behind Irvine Spectrum and located near freeways, shopping, dining, good area.
    Decent computer and consumer electronics.

ConsCompany runs " lean " and individuals especially in IT wear many hats.
    Employees are unhappy and disgruntled
IT employees have to be on-call when on vacation. Need to bring laptop, broadband card, cannot vacation overseas. Management will disapprove.
Direct managers treat team members with disrespect.
No work and life balance at all. It's always work
IT Technology is poor coming from a global company like Toshiba
Server room is unorganized and below ITIL standards.
As a contractor, one will never know when can go permanent
Windows team is understaffed ( two ppl) and have to do too much work.
Too cheap to invest in technology that will make IT more productive and easier for staff
" Don't work there! " to anyone unless you are really desperate for a job.
Windows team lead is the epitome of someone " one can not work and co-exist with. "

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more people and make your teams larger. Don't be condescending and treat your team members with respect.

    Will It Ever Change?

Product Brand Manager (Former Employee) Irvine, CA

ProsWhile nearly all other benifits are gone base pay continues to be higher than most companies at the present time.

ConsNo 401K company contribution, no stock options, no bonuses, Canceled company sponsored retirement plan. Reduction in health benefits while increasing employee costs. Due to company being Japan based, most employees are pressured to work until 7pm or later.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt is well known that management meetings at the top are filled with high pressure and lack of respect for each other in the way they talk to each other. That filters down to the lowest levels as managers treat their subordinates with disrespect in front of their peers. Moral continues to be at an all time low.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
