I have been working at Toshiba America Info full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Low stress, steady job, medical benefits are average. Ten sick days, ten vacation first 5 years. Lots of holidays. On-site cafeteria is nice to have for a backup although it could use definite improvements to provide more variety and healthy options.

    Cons

Digital Products Division (laptops, tablets, tvs, electronics, accessories) is declining and lacks the innovation they may have been known for a decade ago and it is reflected in the morale. Huge gap between American and Japanese culture creates political mayhem. No opportunity for growth. Underpaid and undervalued. You can sleep on the job and get away with it. Lots of pointing fingers and lack of taking responsibility.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and do the job you're overpaid to do. Evaluate the REAL value of the employees who can really make a difference. Take responsibility for your poor decisions and do something about making it right. Your employees will respect you more and feel inspired to work hard for you.

I have been working at Toshiba America Info full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work/like balance and benefit perks (although many tech companies offer more). Makes good products. Great place to gain cultural working experience (Japanese company). People are friendly enough. Good long-term employment potential.

    Cons

Very top-heavy management structure for a subsidiary, with many employees having little-to-no insight on goals and product strategies set forth by the company's headquarters in Japan. Because of the top-heavy management structure, there is little to no room for professional growth - and if you're lucky enough to receive a promotion, it may take a good five years to get it. There are many employees that have logged many years with the company, are still doing the same job and have become complacent and afraid of change as a result. Many employees don't know or care about the products the company sells. Its a very non-collaborative environment and there is often a lot of political infighting between groups. The environment can be stagnating at times; overall its a very different culture than what you would expect from a modern tech company. Salaries are often not market competitive and there is no employee stock incentive program.

Innovative technology company with short sight, inexperienced management team.

I have been working at Toshiba America Info full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has well recognized name worldwide, offers better-than-average benefits and compensations for high tech. They have leading technology and hired many good people.

    Cons

The company have grown too big over the years. The top management is focused on short term results, they lost sight of the company's core values. The organization is too bureaucracy to get work done. with frequent reorganizations/lay offs, majority of employees are afraid to speak up and take risk for the company's benefits. Not many job advancement opportunities here--full of discriminations and the HR is bias. You either need to quit, come back later to get a better title, or you will need to be in the "boys club" circle to get promoted. It is not about what you do or can do, it is about who you know. If you are good at office politics, never disagree with your manager, then you are safe.

    Advice to Management

Value the brand name and core value of Toshiba, don't be short sighted. If the current management team you brought in haven't positive results for many years, it is time to do something and make changes for the long run and promote within. Stop letting incompetent managers ruin the company.

    Pros

Although things happen slowly, things do happen, and employees are generally empowered to initiate change and progress. It is fun to come to work. The people at TAIS are easy going. The company does many things to foster employee moral and a feeling of family.

    Cons

Things happen slowly. There are lots of very hardened silos which are hard to break down to get collaboration. Raises are hard to come by. The MBO program is antiquated.

    Advice to Management

Break down the silos. A cost of living raise is not a merit increase.

I worked at Toshiba America Info full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most people are great to work with and are easy to get along with. Employees have yearly reviews. Most managers understand there is more to life than work. Most managers, including senior management, have an "open door" policy.

    Cons

One VP has a habit of watching the parking lot to see who leaves before 5:00. It didn't matter what time you arrived to work - he felt anyone leaving before 5:00 was cheating the company. He was also known to send out "scouts", when he was not in town, to monitor when people arrived and left work. In all fairness, only one VP has this reputation. Company policy did not always match department policy.

    Advice to Management

Some departments seem to be top-heavy with management - Senior VP, VP, Directors, Sr Managers, Managers. Departments appear to be under staffed / over-worked compared to number of managers.

    Pros

LOTS of freedom. No one really watches the clock here. Need to go to Dr, kids performance or just about anything else. As long as your work is getting done no problem!

    Cons

Upward mobility is EXTREMELY difficult. You can expect best case you will be promoted one level from where you came in - perhaps in 5-10 years. By far most people don't move up. Very much a silo organization. Not much synergy between groups and departments

    Advice to Management

Need to get groups working together. Increase morale as well.
