    Great work balance life!

    ProsGood company with great people. 37.5 hour work weeks, it feels like a small american company with large pockets from a Japan heavyweight.

    ConsSales are declining and that is causing a lot of cutbacks and stress.

    Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Good Quality Products but Lack Good Leadership and Strategy

    ProsGood benefits, salary, great hard working customer-focused teams; very focused on customer satisfaction; history of good customer ratings but is declining

    ConsPoor leadership, lack sales and marketing strategy; high turn-over in sales organization; senior leadership out of touch with field operations and customers; struggle with identifying sales opportunities in territory; far behind in infrastructure and processes in comparison to competitors; many customer does not view as a competitor; losing senior technical skills in field

    Advice to Senior ManagementGet out to field to visit customer and team; develop a realistic strategy to compete and win; change out poor leaders that drag down the organization; lots of potential but drastic change and revamp of strategy is needed to survive; or you can leave it to your successor

    ConsThe level of uncertainty in medical industry has effected Toshiba and they have had to do a major
    nation wide force reduction.

    Advice to Senior ManagementLook at the great loss(decades) of experience in the layoff. Consider trying to rehire some of these lost
    treasures.

    Two Companies: The Field and Headquarters

    Field Service Engineer (Current Employee)

    ProsField personnel are usually excellent to work with, salaries are competitive and field service perks are generous. Company benefits are generous too. Formerly a "botique" supplier of medical imaging equipment, Toshiba has moved up to fourth place in U.S. sales with mostly good products that continue to be improved by Japan. The products have excellent MD Buyline ratings. There are a lot of "grayhairs" in field service, which says something. A field service engineer's best resources are his co-engineers.

    ConsDon't like the corporate structure? Just wait two years. The American upper management team changes often. (This is a Japanese subsidiary. The Japanese CEO is a titular head only, as per normal Japanese business custom.)
    Currently, the company is shrinking along with the entire Imaging Equipment industry due to falling medical reimbursement rates and the new national healthcare program. Good sales people are leaving in droves as upper management scrambles to cope with the changing landscape. The company had its first round of layoffs in living memory last Oct 1.
    Toshiba Medical is legendary for having the worst factory service documentation in the industry. The only positive side to that is nobody else can figure out how to work on your stuff.
    About two years ago Toshiba adopted Oracle as its corporate software. It was, and continues to be, an unmitigated disaster.

    Advice to Senior ManagementTo Upper Management: Operating a successful company means taking responsibility for the long term well-being of the entire company, as in the next twenty years, not just the next fiscal half. It is a moral obligation.

    Headed in the Wrong direction

    ProsComfortable working conditions, good benefits

    ConsLimited opportunities for promotions, non-reactive upper management. Veteran tenured employees are a dying breed, and are not being encouraged to stay

    Advice to Senior ManagementDo something about people who are not selling - find people who can sell. Stop favoring "new regime" employees over veteran employees. Reward good performance and loyalty - not just doing what the boss says to do.
