I worked at Toshiba as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    Engineering and Manufacturing type atmosphere.

    Cons

Less pay than other technology roles. Benefits are somewhat competitive. Poor management at the Houston office, lack of respect for persons. Engineer's ideas were not supported and they were over worked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to listen to your customers more, be more competitive with salaries, and foster a better culture that respects individuals and their ideas.

I have been working at Toshiba

    Pros

Generally caring towards committed employees. The company values employees who are prepared to put their heart and soul into the company. Local HR in the UK are very supportive.

    Cons

Culture increasingly unsuited to fast moving markets. Risk averse and overly conservative. lack of structured training programmes. The reaction to tough market conditions seems to be cost cutting rather than anything innovative, imaginative or assertive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a more multicultural approach as you are competing in international markets, not just Japan where everyone knows and are more inclined to listen to you.

I worked at Toshiba full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people working there...some have become life-long friends of mine. I like how the company hired people of all different ages...so you didn't feel like it's all young twenty-thirty somethings like some companies I have worked at.

    Cons

Management is too nit-picky. Slow progress to make any changes from standard operating procedures. Cannot keep abreast of the competition with competitive pricing in their products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back up the people who support you and be more positive and encouraging. Pointing out good work versus only mentioning the negatives.
