I worked at Toshiba of Canada full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There is considerable room for both career path and growth in this organization - however, like any company - you need prove yourself. Their benefits are more than competitive - good dental program; good bonus program; salaries tend to be at the mid point; you will make more money elsewhere

    Cons

There are alot of employees that have been with the company a long time which leads to not being open to new ideas and approaches. However, as other posters have indicated, the organization does do quite a bit of frequent reorganization/layoffs. Part of the reason for constant layoffs is the poor margins in the categories they compete and also an intent to open up career paths for newer blood. With the constant reorganizations, they could do a better job of communicating that and providing the reasons. Some of their managers do need to take some leadership training. Like most companies; managers at this company got their management job because they were good at what they did but you can't assume functional expertise/proficiency equates to ability to lead/manage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication especially where the company is going and take some leadership training.

    Pros

Get to view all new products first hand. Sometimes.

    Cons

Management, VPs and senior people are afraid of being terminated so no one takes responsibility for anything.
Blame game is played daily in the office. Poor products. No training. Unreasonable expectations. Micromanaging of departments. Long hours. Great deal of bitter employees.Little interest in employee growth or happiness. No moving up in the company. Poor salary. Pitiful employee coverage. Very sad morale in office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close office and just deal with distribution of products.

I have been working at Toshiba of Canada full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits, hours and compensation. Presidents club always goes somewhere amazing and the commission seems better than my competition.

    Cons

Lack of communication between head office and branches in terms of business development. No on boarding and limited training. No ongoing coaching and almost no support in terms of improving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't blame lack of effort when you're not doing anything to help or offer support. There needs to be loyalty and a sense of community even if we're all over Canada.
