Great company for those willing to work hard

    LAE (Current Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

ProsThere is room for growth if you are willing to put in the hard work. There is also a chance to make a lot of money but it will take a lot of time and dedication. If you watch the clock this job is not for you. If this job was easy everyone would do it but if you see the big picture, it is worth it.

ConsTurnover, work life balance, and the hours can be very long

ProsGreat atmosphere with good people and a solid hands on learning environment. Potential for making a substantial amount of money. The company has fantastic training for developing communication skills and selling techniques. It always seemed that there was never a situation, no matter how difficult or stressful that situation was someone else hasn't been through and couldn't help you with it. Fun activities, happy hours…etc

ConsPhones sales. Somewhat cut throat with other brokers within the company (naturally) but can get sticky. They do however have rules in place to deal with these issues. My main issue was somewhat part of the nature of the job in being that your salary and livelihood could be cut in a day because of the negligence of a truck driver in which you have limited control over. Some carriers are a great experience but it only takes one bad apple to lose your biggest customer.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey may already be experimenting with this but try adding additional commissions to brokers in the sales phases. Possibly once they exceeded goals in a given week they can be eligible for something like that. Also, develop some sort of security net for customers lost or encourage brokers to not put all their in eggs in one basket and to diversify their book.

    Dedication Pays Off

    Logistics Account Executive (Current Employee)
    Charlotte, NC

ProsYou have the potential to go from nothing to making 6 figures in under 2 years, and it is very realistic. You are not held back because of the uncapped commission structure, and it is 100% true that the work you put in reflects the paychecks you receive. Most positions are promoted from within so the growth opportunities are there. The company values integrity, and leadership is motivated to making the company the best it can be.

ConsThe job is very stressful at times and can become frustrating. It usually takes at least a few months to see the results of your work. You have to make a lot of cold calls while building your book of business, work hard while in the office, and then be on call 24/7.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work, and keep doing everything you can to grow the company.

Be rewarded for your hard work and join a tight knit team.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsUncapped earning potential and the ability to earn great pay in a relatively short amount of time.
Ability to move up into a Lead or Management role in an organization that almost exclusively promotes from within.
Relaxed company culture that allows people to be themselves at work and promotes great team building activities in and out of the office.
Management that is very available to speak with anytime and is going to push you towards your goals, genuinely want you to succeed.
Great training program, which continues past the initial 6 months with leadership development.

ConsWorking hours will be long (50-60 hrs/wk), especially in the first 1-2 years while developing a clientele, and a limited amount of paid time off during that time too. However, if someone realistically wants to make 100K+ in 3 or 4 years, they should probably anticipate working that much or more in any organization.
Base pay is low during the initial training/sales ramp up.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep trying to find the right candidates with a genuine drive to succeed and tireless work ethic. Slackers or those looking for the easiest path definitely need not apply.

Fantastic success and terrible loss, a daily emotional roller coaster

    Logistics Account Executive (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsTQL provides an excellent training regimen for those interested in the domestic transportation industry. After your initial six month training period, the base salary helps you get by for months 6-15 while you build a book of business. The sky really is the limit as far as how much you can earn. There are people who get by on 50-60k per year, and those who make well over 300k. If you have a no excuses attitude, you will be rewarded. For those that are successful, there are plenty of opportunities to rise through the management ranks. TQL has been and will continue to be in a high growth stage for some time. Take advantage of it.

ConsMoving freight is mundane. It is stressful, messy, and always uncertain. Stay away from TQL if you get stressed easily. Forget about vacation days. The package you are offered is miniscule and it is difficult to take more than a day off at any time. Leaving for the day means having someone else handle your accounts. Without an assistant, this could mean disaster. Your book of business is like a stock portfolio. Balanced and diversified will help you endure market forces and competition. The only problem with balanced and diversified is that it is very difficult to obtain. Often times your book of business is luck of the draw, whatever you can get and whatever you can keep. There is a lot of chance involved and while hard work will mean success at some point down the line, it's hard to stay positive when you are drowning on a 35k salary. You will become elated with success one moment and find it hard to continue after a day of things going wrong. Even if you are good at managing your book, a lot of what goes wrong in transportation is completely beyond your control.

Advice to Senior ManagementTQL needs to change its 35k base salary policy. Some office locations are fine on 35k and others in large urban areas require substantially more. Review base salaries and make them competitive with the job market of each location.

Akin to going back to High School

    Sales Team Leader (Current Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

    Prosunlimited earnings potential, decent technology

ConsGroupthink at its worst on the executive and management level. Expectations to perform menial tasks gratis, under the guise of it being a necassary stepping stone to management. The reality being (at least as far as Cincinnati is concerned) that there are no opportunities as they cannot find any qualified candidates... perhaps due to the fact turnover is easily 85%. Compensation (25%) is low by industry standards (40%.) Try too hard to be hip with patio keggers, corny contests and shameless in-house promotional videos. Atmosphere is very much like a high school (interestingly the CEO and top Execs all attended high school together.) You can make decent money but the trade off is extremely long hours cold calling, dealing with customer/carrier issues 24/7 and competitive cutthroat prospecting business pratices amoungst employees (which seems to be encouraged by management.) Work/Life balance is awful. Sadly vacations and holiday's become dreaded occasions.

Advice to Senior ManagementSee first line above.

ProsIf you're willing to work hard and dedicate yourself, it's amazing what you can achieve at TQL. You need to implement the coaching that's given, and you will become successful.

ConsIf you can call it a con, it's very difficult. Anything worth achieving isn't going to be easy. This is the road less traveled.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to accept nothing less than great results. It pushes people to achieve what they never thought possible.
