Great company for those willing to work hard

I have been working at Total Quality Logistics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is room for growth if you are willing to put in the hard work. There is also a chance to make a lot of money but it will take a lot of time and dedication. If you watch the clock this job is not for you. If this job was easy everyone would do it but if you see the big picture, it is worth it.

    Cons

Turnover, work life balance, and the hours can be very long

I worked at Total Quality Logistics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great atmosphere with good people and a solid hands on learning environment. Potential for making a substantial amount of money. The company has fantastic training for developing communication skills and selling techniques. It always seemed that there was never a situation, no matter how difficult or stressful that situation was someone else hasn't been through and couldn't help you with it. Fun activities, happy hours…etc

    Cons

Phones sales. Somewhat cut throat with other brokers within the company (naturally) but can get sticky. They do however have rules in place to deal with these issues. My main issue was somewhat part of the nature of the job in being that your salary and livelihood could be cut in a day because of the negligence of a truck driver in which you have limited control over. Some carriers are a great experience but it only takes one bad apple to lose your biggest customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They may already be experimenting with this but try adding additional commissions to brokers in the sales phases. Possibly once they exceeded goals in a given week they can be eligible for something like that. Also, develop some sort of security net for customers lost or encourage brokers to not put all their in eggs in one basket and to diversify their book.

    Pros

Free beer on Fridays. Happy hour every once in awhile. Office location.

    Cons

Where to start....all the reviews on here are from recruiters posting them. I sit next to one at the office and they do it daily. No lunch breaks!!! You have to work on Saturdays and some holidays. Bringing so many new people in that it's nearly impossible to get a good book of business,. It involves cold calling companies that hate TQL because of their shady reputation in the industry and the fact that they get multiple calls from us because there is no way to track it. Only people making money here are the veteran brokers that were given their accounts. Please don't let the recruiters fool you. Your better off anywhere else.

I worked at Total Quality Logistics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good benefits, excellent earning potential, and semi-relaxed work environment. Beer given at work.

    Cons

The job consumes your life. I would not recommend this position to anyone with a family. There is a reason they had 5 core values and then dropped one....balance between life and work. You will also encounter many people who love to be hateful to carriers, and the attitude is encouraged among colleagues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider re-implementing the 5th core value...

I have been working at Total Quality Logistics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

TQL provides an excellent training regimen for those interested in the domestic transportation industry. After your initial six month training period, the base salary helps you get by for months 6-15 while you build a book of business. The sky really is the limit as far as how much you can earn. There are people who get by on 50-60k per year, and those who make well over 300k. If you have a no excuses attitude, you will be rewarded. For those that are successful, there are plenty of opportunities to rise through the management ranks. TQL has been and will continue to be in a high growth stage for some time. Take advantage of it.

    Cons

Moving freight is mundane. It is stressful, messy, and always uncertain. Stay away from TQL if you get stressed easily. Forget about vacation days. The package you are offered is miniscule and it is difficult to take more than a day off at any time. Leaving for the day means having someone else handle your accounts. Without an assistant, this could mean disaster. Your book of business is like a stock portfolio. Balanced and diversified will help you endure market forces and competition. The only problem with balanced and diversified is that it is very difficult to obtain. Often times your book of business is luck of the draw, whatever you can get and whatever you can keep. There is a lot of chance involved and while hard work will mean success at some point down the line, it's hard to stay positive when you are drowning on a 35k salary. You will become elated with success one moment and find it hard to continue after a day of things going wrong. Even if you are good at managing your book, a lot of what goes wrong in transportation is completely beyond your control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

TQL needs to change its 35k base salary policy. Some office locations are fine on 35k and others in large urban areas require substantially more. Review base salaries and make them competitive with the job market of each location.

    Pros

Can make money if you get lucky or get the right account. Otherwise the first 6 mos. are a breeze.

    Cons

Cold calling nonstop. Also you will have to fight with so many brokers working for the same company who will try and stab you in the back for a buck if they can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold your seasoned brokers to the same rules as everyone else even if they are making big $$$
