    Pros

Extremely qualified people, the purest form of meritocracy (pnl-based), a lot of freedom, super casual environment, very relaxed but focused atmosphere, top technology, best (by far) performance-based pay/incentive structure around, insane perks (a free on-site pantry which is almost a full grocery store, free lunch/breakfast, free tickets to NYC shows, very beautiful yet informal offices, etc.).

    Cons

Work on your own (or come with your group). Until achieving reasonable p/l (unless arriving with huge reputation), any group will enjoy extremely limited human support (programmers, collaboration, etc)..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps some optional collaborative structure for those who have potential but are struggling with so many tasks to implement a winning strategy. Also, a standardized progress measures which would keep closer tabs at groups' along the way (even before going live) and not only when it is time to send them packing for lack of performance (when they act very swiftly).

    Pros

Snacks, food, parties and other activities. OK (not great) offices. Very recognizable name in the industry.

    Cons

EXTREMELY SILOed firm and even internally within Teams. Management appears to be Winging It.
In Technology, what used to be the bread & butter of the firm, very few opportunities for advancement outside a small group of people. Outright Favoritism & Nepotism in a number of cases. Growing pains & high turnover. Your ability to leave and work for a competitor is severely limited, which means that your chances of doing so are very low - this means that they do not have to compete as hard for you with career advancement. compensation or other things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review Departments top down, whether opportunities for growth are being provided to all capable employees or just concentrated to a handful of people. In the long term, your firm will become less competitive if your employees realize that they are better off going to another firm.

I have been working at Tower Research Capital LLC full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Free meal and snacks. Long vacations. Work/life balance is pretty good. For trader, the pnl cut plan is awesome if your sharpe is outstanding. Seldom fire/layoff people, unless u r an underperformed trader or screwed sth badly.

    Cons

communication breakdown: bonus delayed without notice; people kept working on orphaned project/ticket whose requestor was fired.
frequent management change: Entire legal department swept, general counsel, CTO and CCO changed in last 2 years.
little room for career advancement and everyone is only allowed to work on their own small part.
culture changed and new policy made the place like a bank such as Soc Gen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To MG: Several years ago you were trying to know everyone in office(at least NYC one), but now I think you can barely name any new comers. Please let JFK go, focus on running the company instead of delegating almost everything to SJ and MV.

I worked at Tower Research Capital LLC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

A great abundance of statistics and CS people with a lot of knowledge

    Cons

Very segmented - trading teams do not work together. However, generally speaking, the interview for the company is done by different people in different teams so to join the company you are evaluated by several people on different teams, and this makes it possible to have a fairly level knowledge entry level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None really; more parties!

    Pros

There are definitely lots of smart people who know what they are talking about and the office is very zen.

    Cons

There is a lack of freedom in projects, and it often feels like you are just a cog in a machine.

I have been working at Tower Research Capital LLC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

HFT profits are down everywhere but tower is one of the survivors. Tower seems to be doing better than its peers.
Great parties and offices are really nice.

    Cons

If you are not in trading team, you are clearly second or third class citizen. Company is heavily silo'd and segregated. If you are in technology and support side, don't expect to learn anything from business side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do the little people matter? Doesn't seem like it.

I worked at Tower Research Capital LLC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great work environment and smart coworkers.
The office located at the heart of NYC and has awesome roof deck to enjoy sunshine with your lunch. People at Tower are very bright while they are kind of laid-back compared to other financial firms. The culture makes all employers feel they belong to one big family.

    Cons

Since this is a hedge fund, you cannot change the world of your friend. If you are more into making ordinary people's life better, this is not the place for you.
