    Pros

Good Benefits, Good work life balance, Great Holiday Parties.

    Cons

It's very cliquish, The employees that have worked at Tower for 15+ years, we call "Traditional Tower" Traditional Tower employees have moved up the rank -qualified or not. The former CEO was big on loyalty. So, regardless if you were an idiot or not, if you've stuck in there with him, you'd get a title that you most likely didn't deserve. They are horrible at managing people. Since they have a relationship with the CEO, they are able to screw people over, treat them any way they want and nothing is going to happen to them. They do not have the experience or skills to manage people. Some of them do not know how to do their jobs but will tell you you're doing everything wrong.

HR is USELESS. They do not answer calls or emails. They never have an immediate answer to your question. The answer is always..."let me call you back" They will mess up your hours, your check and then get mad at you for questioning it.It's pointless to complain to them about Traditional Tower people because one of them is head of HR. So, your complaints will fall on deaf ears and you may end up getting fired.

Because the CEO decided to hold on to people who didn't know what they were doing, and thought loyalty was more important than hiring experienced, smart and productive people, he lost his company. Instead of investing in his IT department, his Business Development and Marketing Departments, he gave Traditional Tower ridiculous salaries that they didn't deserve. Ultimately, he lost his company.

The company was purchased and the Traditional Tower Clique had to disperse and find a job where they will have to actually WORK for their check.

No advice needed. The management that use to be there is gone. It's now AmTrust. I hope they do a better job than Tower

    Pros

Analysts are treated like rock stars by vendor clients and their words are eagerly considered by executives in financial institutions.
A stint as an analyst is a great way to expand one's contact base and open many doors.

    Cons

From the outside, TowerGroup tries to give the impression that it has many more analysts with much more experience than it actually does.
Many of the analysts claim to be experts in particular areas when, in fact, they have only read chapter 1 of the subject's 101 textbook or have written a research note.
Executive management was more about image than substance.
Promises made to me during the hiring process were rescinded once I started the job.
The organization often makes claims to prospective customers to the effect that they have many more financial institutions as clients than they actually do.
Often what passes for "research" is nothing more than a few phone calls to the same three or four contacts that the analysts use for every project.
The Top 10 issues report and the IT spending report are survey based extrapolations from past years' reports. The number of respondents to the surveys is often in single digits - and from this supposed trends are identified.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop believing your own press and refocus the business. Actively seek out more Financial Institutions.

    I worked at Towergroup

    Pros

intellectually stimulating, lots of autonomy, small company with large parent, supportive of employees, employees received feedback and were offered a good work/life balance, sales people do not have opportunity for promotion, but it could be a great launching pad for an analyst.

    Cons

too may cooks in the kitchen as far as management, employee morale was rather low as the culture is unusual. Communication was also a challenging part of the culture; selling the services of an analyst is very challenging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

company needs to be more focused

    Pros

Good name brand with plenty of growth opportunities.

    Cons

Not a sales driven organizaion. There is a lack of communication amongst senior managment and the rest of the workplace. Moral is at its lowest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Research needs to take some ownership in developing relationships to expand growth opportunities. The Securities & Investments team is lacking the quality and experience of previous analysts. There is an ongoing disconnect between sales and research.
