Current Employee – been working at Towill full-time
Pros – Towill works on great projects for great clients. Surveying and mapping is the focus of the company, all the bosses do what I do. Since Towill focuses on agency work, utilities, infrastructure, etc. we were not hit terribly hard when the economy tanked in 2008. While many of my surveyor friends were looking for jobs, I had steady work.
Cons – The reason I posted here was because of the two negative reviews. Two words: Sour Grapes. It's one thing to say what you feel, but there were some exaggerations and straight-out lies (obesity? alcoholism?? really???) Things can't be as bad as the two reviews imply - there is very very little turnover (I can only think of one person who left to work for another company - 4 years ago).
Advice to Senior Management – People like feedback and advice. I've never worked at a company that did this well, but more of it would be a good thing.

Former Employee – worked at Towill
Pros – I'm thinking. If you don't have any other job opportunities, it will put food on the table. They used to get good jobs.
Cons – Upper management is incredibly territorial. Each branch is run like a little domain. They even fight over equipment. One works for one of the vice-presidents. If that one doesn't have any more work, you may not be "invited" to work for another one, even if he (no women) has work, based on how he feels about the last one you worked for. The OPM3 (organizational project management maturity model) is about the worst I've seen. Nepotism is rampant.
Advice to Senior Management – Learn how to inspire your staff. Hire professionals for critical project management roles. Actually provide training. Treat your field staff as if they were a part of the company.

Current Employee – been working at Towill
Pros – They have gotten some interesting projects in the past. The San Francisco office is staffed and managed by very intelligent people.
Cons – The corporate office is plagued by alcoholism, nepotism, and obesity, and incredible incompetence. The vice-president got his job by marrying the Presidents daughter. The managers sons are the last ones laid off, regardless of seniority. They are currently only hiring people that come with a Rolodex. They've bought back all outstanding stock (it used to be an employee owned company), and concentrated it in the hands of the vice-presidents; so that none of the employees have a stake (or buy in) to the company anymore. Morale sucks.
Advice to Senior Management – Consider a complete overhaul of the antique management and corporate culture. Keep their commitment to education that is in the employee handbook, but really doesn't exist.
