I have been working at Town Sports International Holdings full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Team members in the corporate office are very willing to partner with each other to foster creativity, implement and see a project through. People truly are living the mission statement of the company and care about fitness and improving lives through exercise.

    Cons

There is a process for everything which can take time. Ultimately, it's to make sure that it will be truly beneficial to the company as a whole.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to team members in the field and lower level staff when moving in new directions.

    Pros

Who doesn't want to improve lives through exercise? Great mission and excellent group of employees to accomplish it. Opportunity for advancement and growth within the company both upward and to other departments.
New COO who has a good opportunity to make changes to the organization and culture.

    Cons

Benefits could be better. More team building opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More specific and personal celebration of individual contributions from senior leadership. And bring back the strong Learning and Development culture!

I have been working at Town Sports International Holdings full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Plug and play system for a easy success track.

    Cons

The inability of the sales team to build value around the multiple aspects of training offered at TSI that beats out their competitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the focus on personal training and leverage the market. TSI has a solid foundation in regards to systems but the first point of contact is not versed enough to demonstrate the true value of training so that the prospect buys on that value first and then the club.

I have been working at Town Sports International Holdings part-time

    Pros

You get to work with many different kinds of people, and as a skating coach I have been humbled by the progress of my students and my role in helping them achieve their skating goals.

    Cons

My job requires being up rather early in the morning, and getting to the facility where I teach is not the most convenient at times.

    Pros

    Full-time instructors receive full benefits.

    Cons

The facilities are no-frills and although there is paid vacation, it's only 5 days.

Raises aren't given in a timely manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The group exercise department was better managed with the system in place when A. Donelly was in charge of it.

The work environment is amazing. The new senior management team is leading the company in the right direction.

    Cons

Your always working, even when you are off. Sometimes it feels lie certain things take forever to get completed while others are immediate. Overall there isn't too much to be upset about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Town Sports International Holdings full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

If you are willing to work hard, be a part of a team and step up to the challenges that people/behavior management careers can present - you will be successful! Great culture created by Robert Giardina (CEO) who started with the company some 30+ years ago as a Personal Trainer. Lots of industry experience within the leadership team which allows them to create an accountable and rewarding environment for team members. Company is still growing and opportunity is still vibrant in the culture. Best place to work if you're going to work in the fitness industry. But, you will have to commit to it. Not an easy job but, great when things come together.

    Cons

You will have to work hard to deliver on the expectations of the clients and fellow team members. Sometimes that can mean long work days and weeks. Sometimes it can be frustrating to not be able to et things done as soon as you'd like. But, you do know people are working to help you. If you don't have a passion for people and the fitness industry, you will probably not enjoy working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lots can be done to increase employee participation and satisfaction in the company. To start; why not have an employee stock purchasing program. Instant investors by the people who are actually most invested. Better health insurance plan (easy to pull a muscle when it's your job). More employee outings and events as like minded people love to be around one and other.
