Pros
Tip money is not taxed unless you claim it. Very flexible with scheduling around your school and other things that come up. Drive a wide variety of cars from Ford Focus to Mercedes.
Cons
Management did everything in their power to try and complicate an easy job. Working in extreme weather temperatures. Dealing with angry customers.
Advice to Senior Management
This is valet parking, not rocket science. Stop complicating such an easy job and let the valets do their work.
Pros
Flexible schedule due to their high turnovers
Cons
You will Never make Money PERIOD.You will Be promised 10 to 12 dollars average. i didnt even average the minimum wage. Also Tip sharing!!!??? I seen MOST of employees putting money in their pockets without sharing,so your tip share will end up 7 or 10 dollars .They Complicate Jobs, its Parking, Not rocket science. They have the Worse Cordinators and managers ever with attitude. I seriously advice working for Mcdonalds instead, you will make more there. They will make a slave out of you for 3 or 4 dollars an hour.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your Employees. Your supervisors and managers DO NOT share tips, they leave big tips in their pockets when busy.NO YELLING AT EMPLOYEES.NO CUSSING AT EMPLOYEES.TECH THEM THAT MUCH
Pros
They were fairly flexible with the schedule. Uniforms were provided. Many of the staff were actually very good, honest people.
Cons
Management the absolute worst I have ever seen. HR could care less about any employee issues or concerns. No support and training nonexistent.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your line level staff. Shopps are a waste of time and everybody knows it. Treat your staff the way you would want to be treated, with RESPECT !
Pros
I work at the world's largest JW Marriott in Indianapolis, so I can't say my conditions are going to apply to all the other locations.
-Great co-workers. Usually younger, friendly, college-age people.
-Work off tips
-Decent room for career advancement (may vary depending on location)
-Constant engagement with management. (during busy times, they'll even be working the valet ramp with the GSA's and GSC's)
-Highly flexible schedule, great for college or multiple jobs.
-Tips included, some days average about $16.00/ hour. and other days can be a lot more.
-Social environment, good for people who like to meet new people and interact with strangers.
Cons
-Low pay, starting wage at my location is $3.00 / hour for GSA's, which wouldn't really be an issue if you always had good days for tips. Unfortunately that's not the case.
-slow days, over-staffing, and lazy co-workers can mean low tips. No matter how much effort you put forth, its a joint effort. There are days when I'll bring in twice as many tips than what I actually get after tip cuts.
-Unless you're stern about what kind of hours you want, they don't have a problem over-working you. I'm a full time student, and for about the first 2 weeks of classes they had me working 45+ hours a week.
Advice to Senior Management
We need more employee meetings. Try taking advice from your employees more, we're the ones who are always on the ramp and know exactly whats going on. If the people who are directly dealing with the guests aren't happy with management, are the guests going to be happy with their service??
Pros
Good money, flexible hours, awesome travel benefits from the host properties. This job will teach you incredibly valuable skills, if you make use of the opportunity. I would highly recommend that anyone wanting to get into sales or anything that requires presentation skills work a year at Towne Park.
I've read all of the other reviews on here, and I'm truly sorry for the people who had a bad experience. I'm in my 40's and LOVE Towne Park. It's a fantastic place to learn how to speak impressively with anyone. I've met Musicians, Senators, Governors, CEO's and I can find common ground in a conversation within 15 seconds with anyone at all. That skill is invaluable.
I've worked with people who were sour on Towne Park, but you get out what you put in. If your attitude sucks, you won't make any money.
Cons
Some days you just don't make much money. That's the breaks with a tips based income. It can be frustrating to watch Joe Shmoe not pull any tips, and then split your $200 with him at the end of the night.
Advice to Senior Management
Management is inconsistent across properties. I don't get the feeling that Senior Management has a feel (or is very interested) in what is going on at individual properties unless they get a complaint. You'll get a visit once in a blue moon from the muckety mucks. You put on a good show, and they go away for another year.
Pros
-Flexible schedules
-Always had something new to learn about
-Managers were always easy to get a long with
-made cash tips
-felt like like I could grow with the company if I wanted to move
-had a great team to work with
Cons
- pay stinks, the neighbors are paying $5 more per hour...I nearly left if it wasn't for the management
- always feel understaffed
- Wind always ripped thru in the Winter causing Wind chills to be around 40-70 below at times.. Lake effect.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay people what there worth. Also don't be so hard on that secret shop thing. It's BS, we all know we gave excellent service to every guest. They should dump that & use customer survey cards instead.
Pros
Some of the best reason to work at Towne Park? I seriously can't describe some of the best reason to work at Towne Park other than my immediate co-workers.
Cons
Some of the downsides of working at Towne Park includes:
1) Poor upper management skills. If you decide to work for the Atlanta based Townepark, I strongly recommend that you prepare yourself for poor skilled managers.
2) No benefits. You are asked to work a 40 hour week to receive benefits; however, it's impossible to work 40 hours a week when management comes up with every excuse to keep you under 40 hours a week.
3) No set schedule; therefore, when scheduled to work on a day of an appointment that you already made, it is your fault. I had an final exam I needed to take and because it interfere with my work schedule it was my fault. It was as if the account manager was discouraging me from taking my final exam. Raises the question, "does Towne Park support its employee's education goals?"
4) Overworked and underpaid. I can only speak on the barista pay which is $8.00 an hour. You are asked to do so much yet your continue to be underpaid.
5) No room to grow. Managers will always try to manipulate you into believing that there will always be room to grow. Do not believe this. I had worked as a barista for over a year and some months. I went to management for a supervisor position which paid a dollar more and was denied constantly. Expect to be turned away for non sense reasons. I live in the city with no mean of personal transit except the city's MARTA system. Every morning, I woke up and caught the first train to the nearest transit station nearest to the hospital and walked. This did not factor into the decision; however on the mornings that the system was on a delay and I was late to work did. I was the only barista at the time that was able to arrive to work as early as 6:00am. You will work hard and ask for what you think you deserve and in return will be denied. There is no room to grow based on personal and unjust reasons.
6) Personal versus business? Managers will always take matters personally no matter how many times they tell you it isn't personal, it just business. What manager cuts your hours 30 to 6 hours a week because you move a sheet of paper that was typed by them to retype based on your district manager's comments? In my defense I was helping the manager, who was gone from the store for two weeks, by retyping the paper and reposting it, so that district manager felt we were obeying her decisions as we operated her store. I was simply helping out. But because it was taken as a personal attack, I was given personal consequences. Funny, however, the sheet I retyped was taken down and retype by that manager, but was the same thing I typed just in a bigger font. Personal? I believe so.
There are so many cons to this company. I would recommend any potential employee to re-think its decision. There are so many better companies out there. I would like to make it clear that last month I was hired at another licensed Starbucks store as a Shift Supervisor making 11.32 an hour. A big difference. And the job guarantees 40 or more hours no matter what. There's a big difference between its policies and Towne Park.
Advice to Senior Management
The advice or feedback to the leadership at Towne Park I would like to make is begin to treat your employees with dignity and respect. Don't take your best employees for granted, because when it's too late, it's too late (especially when they have found a better and more exciting work place).
Pros
-Very good scheduling flexibility
-Management is not too bad
-Good for college kids
-Lots of excercise
-You have a lot of cash money on hand.
Cons
-Low pay compared to other valet companies
-Tip pool sucks when you have 20 people working one shift
-Certain locations pay more/less, pray that you get lucky and get a good one
-Need to stay a year to get benefits
-No real reason to stay other than a paycheck
Advice to Senior Management
You need to find way to keep your employees longer.
Pros
meet new people, great co workers, outdoor environment
Cons
management can be lazy at times
Advice to Senior Management
be more pro active on the drive with the valets and doorman and not just live in the office
Pros
very flexible, will try to work with you on days needed off, will give you extra days if they can
Cons
not always having a set schedule, sometimes too many people scheduled to work at a time makes it hard to make money
Advice to Senior Management
I feel that the rules need to be enforced a little better sometimes, seems like some people can get away with things they should not
