    Pros

Overall, it was a fabulous place to work. Small enough company to make necessary changes to one's job to improve effectiveness. Results driven work ethic by most the staff. Great culture.
(Salary and benefits get you to work for a company, right? But culture and interpersonal relationships you develop in any work place will keep you there.)

    Cons

    Every company has its weaknesses.
    1) Toyoda could start by focusing less on the hierarchy of traditional business, and more on peer-to-peer style management. People who do the job know what they need in order to do it better. Ask them what they need, give it to them or give them the tools they need in order to make the change necessary to do their job more efficiently. People do take ownership and pride in their work over time. Management should be more proactive and ask them what they need.
    2) Toyoda uses ERP software. I thought they should be using CRM. Follow-up and follow-through are critical in any company. CRM software could have helped in this area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you start cutting staff, it should be done once and deep. When cuts are made every few months, it shows management doesn't know what they are doing and in turn makes staff nervous about their jobs, lowering performance levels.
Lesson: Cut once, cut deep and be done.

    Suggestion:
Monthly division meetings with the WHOLE division. Someone from each department should talk to everyone about what's going on in their department. This is a good chance to tap the brain power of other people in one's company. Especially in a down-turned economy, I don't know why they didn't do this. Remember, people take pride in their job and their company. It helps define who they are.
Lesson: Staff knowledge is a company's biggest resource. Tap it. All of it.

I have been working at Toyoda Machinery USA

    Pros

The Compensation seem to be above industry standards and the bennifits are very good as well. Management is fair and reasonable and easy to communicate with.
The company will provide or pay for additional training.

    Cons

Because they are in the machine tool industry they tend to be affected more than other companies by economic down turns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In this fast changing world, product development cycles need to be shortened. More focus should be on software development and development of new features.
