I have been working at Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Great benefits. Fairly decent pay.

    Cons

Management runs company like most other organizations with short-term view in mind. Many executives are near retirement-age so they are slightly set in their ways. This can also be a good thing since there will be opportunities at the top when some retire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start taking a longer-term view to the business. Start making decisions based upon business decisions, not just what how you've done things in the past.

I have been working at Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

TMHU continues to lead the market and has a great future with a lot of opportunity for growth. A lot of people at TMHU are bitter about the closure of the headquarters from Irvine, CA to Columbus, IN, however it's really going to put the company in a good position and will make it a stronger organization in the long-run. Most everyone was offered their jobs in IN and they are taking care of those who chose to leave TMHU with a good package, so the company is treating everyone extremely well. TMHU offers good compensation with excellent benefits, offers a good work/life balance, and really values their employees. A great place to work.

    Cons

Because it is a smaller company, there may not be advancement opportunities that arise as quickly as larger companies, but even that is changing as the company grows.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest in your employees and lead with integrity.

I have been working at Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The company feels like you are working with a family. Everyone works well as a team. Overall there is stability and good benefits.

    Cons

It is difficult to advance unless someone retires or leaves. The company is moving its headquarters to Columbus, Indiana and there will be massive turnover as a result. There is very little associate recognition and no formal program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for more ways to recognize associates and to reward those who bring new ideas to the table and help the company improve. Also, don't forget to reward those who help you climb by helping them climb too.

    Pros

Not much. I really cannot even think of anything to fill up the twenty word min.

    Cons

Dysfunctional, Broken Promises, Unorganized, No Collaboration, Hidden Agendas. They do not invest in the employees, i.e. training, IT, etc. The feeling is that you are lucky enough to have a job and you feel like a just a "warm body"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit, and get real leaders in place.

    Pros

Stable employment for cruisers. Benefits are OK. Used to be a loyal employer. Now moving to Midwest. Market leader in sales.

    Cons

Lack of meritocracy, longetivity pays, performance does not. You definitely feel the Japanese business culture. Heavy politics and blame culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest on hiring good talent and provide them with latitude to improve the business.

I have been working at Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A.

    Pros

Great place to work with many employees with over 20 years with the company. Easy access to senior management. New leadership has the potential to keep the company from complacency and continue to be the leader in this industry.

    Cons

Company offices are moving from Irvine to Columbus Indiana. Leadership changes have muddled the company focus and direction. Middle managers contiue to remain stuck in the "This is how we always have done it rut." Head count is constantly an issue and there is no push for technology that would reduce the need for more staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on the customers and core principles and less on "putting something out." Adequately staff departments or adopt technologies that could reduce the need for more staff.

The European business is a bit too constrained by old processes and structures
Can be bureaucratic at times (like most major corporations)

Focus on the core strengths of material handling expertise
Leave the product thinking behind and focus on solving customers material handling needs
