I worked at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    1) Good problem solving training that can be used throughout career
    2) Opportunity to travel
    3) Ability to work on large projects
    4) Team Members can rotate groups to gain more experience in other areas

    Cons

    1) Evaluation system is difficult and hard work is not readily recognized
    2) Heavy workload that generally requires a large amount of overtime
    3) Very office heavy work; would rather be in the field more

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate employees in a way that makes them feel that they are accomplishing something and rewards them for their effort. The workload should be a bit lighter to allow employees to maintain a more even work-life balance.

I worked at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Toyota does not layoff or fire people.

    Cons

    1) Toyota tends to load work on the proven performers, but at the same time Toyota accomodates deadwood.
    2) Toyota is stingy with promotions. I have seen Specialists loaded with more work and responsiblity year after year and not being promoted eventhough they have been given responsiblity compariable to Manager level employees at other large manufacturing companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate and promote employees fairly and get rid of the deadwood.
