    Pros

Your colleagues are pretty wonderful if you're on their good side. Flexible hours and understanding when things came up. Comprehensive benefits. You can make lifelong friends.

    Cons

Depending on which one you work at, management is very different. They take things out on employees and can never admit when they're wrong. With new management, they are very set in their ways and don't want to do things the way that everyone is used to and works. The warranty is pushed on the employees to sell which I understand, however management doesn't make an effort themselves. They leave their cashiers, even brand new ones, to handle the busy waves themselves with no assistance. If you need a manager override, it may take 10-12 minutes before anyone comes up to help. You have to pretty much leave and go look for them yourself. Don't customers come first? Hours can be pretty horrendous, and favouritism happens without fail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like human beings. Smile more and show a little appreciation. (Honestly) Consider the views of employees and take it into account when making changes.

    Pros

Flexibility, fun working environment, good staff

    Cons

A lot of independence in the express stores, so left to make most of the decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye out on those who have more power at the company, they sometimes take things for granted.

I have been working at Toys "R" Us Canada full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -benefits are pretty comprehensive
-ability to advance quickly in the company if you are flexible and willing to relocate

    Cons

-compensation is often not equal to work put in
-many HR issues in most stores

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seniority does not always mean that someone should have a job. Just because they have been with the company a long time, does not mean that they are necessarily the right person for the job. Many issues with fraternization, directors not working their full hours that their salary pays them for, unfair compensation for lower ranking employees.

I worked at Toys "R" Us Canada full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Company promotes from within, and higher manager positions have decent pay for retail. Good benefits and compensation packages. Company will work with you to work around your home life, though schedule becomes more strict as you move up in rank. Company prefers to promote from within.

    Cons

Starting positions are low in wage and respect. If you want to move up the chain, you will likely have to change locations with each promotion. Higher ranked managers may be required to change location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better orientation for people in starting positions. Most employees to not understand the benefits available, which increases turnover significantly.
