Pros
The people you get to come in contact with are all fairly nice, and the merchandise discount of 10% helps on large purchases like furniture or bedding sets.
Cons
The management team could have been more understanding about school schedules and health emergencies. The General Manager of the store I worked at was also not very proficient at the cash registers and helping when backup cashiers were needed. Also, the Sales Associates should have much more product knowledge than they currently have. I've gone back to shop several times after leaving my job there, and the people I worked with couldn't offer me much help with new items I had questions about.
Pros
- Worked around class schedule (for the most part)
- Decent pay 9.50 an hour
- Most co-workers were friendly
Cons
- Management treats its part-time employees like full-timers (had trouble with outside work obligations even though they had said was fine during interview process)
- Closing Slavery - Not being able to leave the store when your shift is over because you have to stay and clean (sometimes 3 to 4 hours longer than your already 8 to 9 hour shift.... but people who work a morning or mid shift can just walk out the door when they are done)
Pros
The people that worked there were the best thing while working at Toys "R" Us. Management gave me a lot of responsibility which I thought was a compliment to my work ethic.
Cons
Horrible hours, there were weeks I was working 8 hours a week. There was never really any safety training which I thought was horrible. It was a "go out there and do it" kind of job with little to no training. Like all jobs people were preferred and really unfair. The biggest thing that got me mad was that when I got the Job they told me I was going to work as a Electronics sales person. I was gonna do most of my time in "R" zone (electronics). I was excited for that. I never stepped foot into that place.
Advice to Senior Management
Concentrate more on training the staff, using them to their abilities, and crack down on Managers choosing favorites in a working environment.
Pros
you get a ten percent discount.
Cons
you have to give up your holidays and not spend with family
Advice to Senior Management
dont promote the kiss butt people. promote those that are worth it. dont transfer people over an hour from their home.
Pros
10% Employee Discount
Fun People to Work with
Shared Product Knowledge
Paid Slightly Above minimum wage
Kind of a good environment
Cons
Lots of standing around
Lots of loud noises that may lead to a headache
Not a lot of hours
They persuade you to try and sell extra stuff
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure to have the schedule done on time, so we can plan our week ahead of time. I hate having to wait until Monday or even Tuesday for our schedule!
Pros
you can work with cool people if you get lucky, some managment/supervisors are reasonable and easy to get along with
Cons
Some managers don't do any work and criticize employees for their lack of work. Working in retail you will obviously encounter annoying customers
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure managers and supervisors are just as accountable as lower lever employees. Better communicate issues with lower level employees
Pros
Very good work environment
Very easy to get along with other employees
You get to interact with customers a lot (helps make the day go faster)
You're paid $7.75 (slightly above minimum wage)
Cons
They hire too many people during the holiday season, and then they cut everyone's hours.
During the holiday season, you'll get barely any hours per week, usually less than 17 hours a week, even though I had asked for about 25.
They put too much pressure on the sales associates to get them to sell extra stuff, such as their store credit cards and batteries.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop hiring so many seasonal employees.
A lot of your employees feel as if they aren't getting enough hours per week during the holiday season because you hire WAY too many seasonal employees.
Pros
The atmosphere and friendly environment
Cons
The downside of working at Toys R Us is the screaming kids and blinding picking toys for parents who don't know what to get their child.
Advice to Senior Management
The managers and those in leadership roles should enforce the dress code policy upon themselves and others in order to make the stores have a more professional appeal.
Pros
Great coworkers, meet a lot of cool people
Decent management, they seem to know what they are doing.
(Some) customers can be really friendly and nice to talk to
Very flexible with time off (I go to school full time so this is a must)
Cons
Low pay (Minimum wage)
Shifts can be very long (Especially closing shifts since you HAVE to clean the store before you leave)
Many customers can be extremely rude for no reason
Coupons for the store are VERY obscure (Makes customers very angry at me when they don't get the "sales" price)
Managers tend to focus on selling BPP's (Buyer protection), rewards cards, credit cards, etc. instead of focusing on more positive aspects. This is expected because they are probably forced to by THEIR supervisors.
Advice to Senior Management
Make your coupons more clear!
Provide more positive support over negative support (This will increase work ethic!)
Pros
The only reason I stay so long was that the medical insurance was very cheap.
During Christmas you will have a very good income.
Cons
They don't give enough hours, is supposed to be a PART-TIME not ONCE-A-WEEK-TIME. The most hours I've got was during season (Christmas) and I didn't make full 40 hours a week. After that they started scheduling every 2 weeks and at one point I was getting only one day of 5 hours in TWO WEEKS... I was so behind on my bills and having a very difficult economic situation. They did this to every part-time Team Member as far as I know. Also I was always schedule on my "not available" hours when I had school, this was a constant problem that was never resolved. Because all of this I decided to quit and never look back.
Advice to Senior Management
During season treat the employees better. Is not healthy to work for 14 hours straight and being said that if you don't "stay" you will be fire. I don't even think that is legal.
