Pros
helpful employees and easy to learn everything
Cons
slow at times
not alot of training
Pros
Some coworkers are fun to work with. They will allow requested days off if the request is filed at least a month ahead of time.
Cons
Everything else. The slackers are rewarded and the people that make the store run are the ones to get yelled at. They refuse to promote from within, instead hiring people off the street that don't know or even want to learn the job that other c urrent employees already know.
Pros
-The other team members
-its a lot of fun with others
-learn a lot of different stuff
-gain experience for future
Cons
-the manager doesn't know how to effectively communicate what he feels with employees
-they treat you as if you are expendable
-you deal with more crazy and rude customers than any other place
-you have to deal with system failures and problems with the computer all the time
-they demand a lot from you
-they aren't very forgiving when you're sick... they have no problem firing you over it
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate with employees better, and do not fire someone over something that was not their fault, but another manager's. Someone should not be fired for being sick and calling in.
Pros
Work live balance is acceptable
Cons
seasonal demans place a strees on the work live balance
Advice to Senior Management
reduce stress
Pros
If you are looking to move up as a dept. supervisor, toys r us is the place to work. They do 80% internal promotions.
Cons
They reason why they do 80% internal promotions is so they dont have to pay you that much. As a HR dept supervisor moving up in the company or any other supervisor position, you would make about $2 more than minimum wage, or lower.... depending on how long you have worked there.
Advice to Senior Management
not to my immediate manager, but to corporate... there would be a lot less turnover, and better supervisor if you would pay your employees better than you would pay someone coming from outside the company
Pros
The company is very flexible. They definitely work with you in terms of scheduling. It is generally a smaller staff in the stores and this promotes a tight knit group of employees.
Cons
The company continues to increase the workload and expectations of its employees while at the same time reducing hours. The return policies and lack of the policy printed on receipts makes it extremely difficult for the associates to keep the customers satisfied. With the right resources and hours the stores could do well. Unfortunately this is not the case.
Advice to Senior Management
Come into the stores and see what your employees are going through. You can't add in extra services that create extra work and then reduce hours. Your employees are frustrated and stressed. Get back in touch with your stores and the reality of what the customers and employees need. And please put the return policy back on the receipts! As a consumer myself, I think it was a very poor choice to remove it.
Pros
The weak 10% discount makes your purchases tax free, then 3% off.
'It's a job.
Cons
Management doesn't post the schedule until less than 24 hours before that schedule begins, making it impossible to know when you work.
Revisions are made to the schedule (hours cut) without notifying those who are affected.
Low pay with low, not often, raises.
Expected to take on the roles of 3-4 people with little to know training at all.
Under 6 hours you are supposed to have a 15 min break. *Almost never happens*
Over 6 hours you are supposed to have a 30 min lunch break. *Only if you have a reasonable manager on that shift*
I've gone 7 hours straight here with absolutely no break....just more ridiculous commands.
Advice to Senior Management
Follow your own company policies before you expect your employees to.
Be more organized and have your schedules set and posted at a reasonable time. *I.E. one week ahead*
Pros
It's better than being unemployed. Team members are over all very hard working, cooperative, good intentioned, and very friendly to work with.
Cons
The pay is less than other big box retailers. There is no extra compensation for holidays, for which they are open for all except Christmas. As a DS, you have no say in how or when you are scheduled, you have to offer open availability. There are weekly "turnaround" shifts, where you close and leave the store around midnight, and then have to be back at 6am. In a year, I only had 2 days in a row off once. The store manager where I worked crushed the morale of everyone working there. There was a 100% turnover in in one year. Training was on the fly, in a very high volume fast paced store, most of us were figuring out things as we went. GSL leading, was very frustrating, because we had to coach the cashiers to sell bpp's, batteries, rewards and instant credit all of which most people didn't need or want. They tracked the numbers on these add ons and if the numbers where low as a DS you were held accountable and could be written up for that. When you quit, any earned vacation time is not paid out. You lose it, but you gain the opportunity to find a better place to work where you'll be more respected.
Advice to Senior Management
When there is 100% turn over in one store, many of whom have been with the company for 5 plus years, take a close look, something, or many things are terribly wrong
Pros
I found some very hard working people there.
Taking care of the kids makes you feel great
Cons
No bonus, Minimum Discount, No travel... There is absolutly no advantage of managing in this company. Why do you need 4+ managers opening by 7am? I know... So you can use them as free labor being that they are on salary. No way should the managers do what they are doing. But this is the business they believe to be successful, however it will not. Be prepared for some of the sillyest problems that will drive you insane on a daily basis (item not on file, not enough computers to help more than one guest at a time, return policy? haha. its just turrible)
Advice to Senior Management
Change... Every aspect. You cannot have your DM's micro manage the stores in which they are not even in. you Have 4-6 managers per store. If you make up a "front end manager", what role does everyone else play? It seems like the verterans get the easier part of the job. Its sad but im sure this business will be belly up soon. Oh yea..... your return policy is by far thee worst ever. Thanks for making my days difficult due to your insane return policy.
Pros
You get to see all the new toys before they hit the shelves. It is like a big family at work. Time flies when you are having fun.
Cons
You get your schedule weekly, so it is hard to plan things in your personal life. It is a part time job. So if you are looking for full time hours that usually doesn't happen here.
