Pros
Its fast past especially around chrism-as time so time passes by fast.
Cons
I love everything about the store
Pros
Flexibility
Great brand
Christmas could be fun if it wasn't so stressful
Pay was ok
Teamwork between stores within the district
Cons
Christmas was a nightmare
Following national expectations/communications rewarded you with chastisement from regional management..
As in all retail, too much work and not enough payroll to do it successfully
Constant never ending changes sometimes within hours to corp procedures/expectations
Wanted to sell warranties, batteries, and credit card more than toys
Advice to Senior Management
Remember it's a toy store and the associates should love to work there to have FUN with the guests! With so little payroll and so much to do there is no more fun there! Put the fun back in the company and it would be a great place to work!
Pros
Somewhat flexible hours
Physical work if you're looking to help keep in shape or avoid becoming sedentary
Large mix of responsibilities, from helping guests to stocking shelves to unloading trucks
Cons
lower pay than comparable jobs with other corporations
the hours can be taxing during holiday season/store openings
work on your feet for 8 hours a day
Advice to Senior Management
Consider bringing up pay rates and increasing raises in order to help motivate and retain a skilled and enthusiastic work force. People generally go where the money is.
Pros
Meet a lot of guests, you get your hours, but ive heard it stops after christmas. knowledge of products, and you can wear earrings.
Cons
minimum pay wage, there are only raises after 1 year and if you meet quota at cash registers, as in bpp's, loyalty, etc etc. even if you get a raise you get no more than 30 cents i heard. But we will see, im devoted to the company.
Advice to Senior Management
apply bonuses to associates, and better raises at the end of the year, to keep us motivated to working. i think after a year there should be atleast a 50 cent raise.
Pros
There aren't any, other than the people you meet working there.
Cons
Bad management, snotty customers, overall its terrible.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not micromanage me, focus on whats good and then what needs improvement, not what needs to be done and isn't done right.
Pros
good pay for managers but low for employees
Cons
unrealistic expectations of what can get done by limited staff
Advice to Senior Management
more staff
Pros
pay was good, management was reasonable
Cons
pretty much working with catty girls all day, some coworkers could care less about the job so it made your work 100000 times harder, hours are all over the place, one week youll have 40 and the next week you have 10.
Advice to Senior Management
work on giving everyone consistent hours
Pros
- People are overall pleasant & friendly
- Hours are generally good (40 hours/wk)
- Management does take the time to communicate company development quarterly
- Management is committed to improving the business
Cons
- Bonus incentive is nominal and is tied to company & international performance which makes it hard to really motivate
- Promotions can take a long time; Lateral moves are encouraged and more frequent but the company policy is not to give pay increases for lateral moves
- Company overly focuses on bringing in MBAs - it's a core requirement, but any MBA from any school is fine. Quality of education is irrelevant for this company, you just need the degree. This leads to a VERY wide range of talent all at the same title
- Too many test initiatives + analysts who don't know how to interpret data properly
-No tuition reimbursement
-HMO healthplan is affordable, but POS plan is very expensive, especially for a family.
Advice to Senior Management
Need more stratification in the titles; (At this company, a person one year out of college can be a Senior Analyst, and so can someone w/ 10 years of experience from an Ivy League school)
Pros
The best reason to work at TRU is its global brand and recognition.
Cons
middle management are lifers with limited talents and leadership abilities.
Advice to Senior Management
foster grwoth from the senior ranks; promote from within.
Pros
Gain great knowledge of items within store, great opportunity to meet people.
Cons
Hours get cut after Christmas season.
