I worked at Toys ''R'' Us full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Always something to do; friendly coworkers; average pay for the work; team environment; it was fun to help the customers find the items they were looking for; enjoyed helping with baby registries.

    Cons

Long hours during Christmas; pay could have been better, but it was average for retail; sometimes there weren't enough employees to help clean up at the end of the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us as a contractor

    Pros

Always something to, very relax atmosphere and great co-workers. You could either work individually or in a group.

    Cons

When holidays came around, you had to be extra patient answering questions to tourists and stocking the shelves in an organized manner at the same time.

I worked at Toys ''R'' Us full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Easy to move up if you make the effort. Fast paced, good for multi-taskers. If you're a patient person you will do really well at the service desk.

    Cons

If you do decide to move up, they don't train properly for most positions and still expect you to know everything. The pressure for metrics is crazy with no real compensation if you do well. And the employee discount isn't good unless you're buying a really high dollar item.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer employee compensation for performing well in metrics. No one wants $100 for a BBQ when 3/4 of your employees won't be there that day.

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A company that is trying to recapture it's position in the market, they speak of customers being at the center of everything they do.

    Cons

They need to actually execute their concept of customers at the center of everything they do

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not a great deal of upward mobility, at least not consistent opportunity for all top performers (there are a handful of "chosen" associates while the balance are overlooked).

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Helping a child (or child at heart) find the toy they want feels good. Other employees are good to work with. Overall fun atmosphere.

    Cons

Store gets a bit short handed at times. Too much emphasis on selling credit cards and warranties makes things stressful. Occasional rude customer, but that is just a consequence of retail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't make your employees feel like failures when they don't sell credit cards.
