    Pros

Great brand and fun environment. Macro communication is great - quarterly business review meetings with CEO and Executive Committee where results and strategy are presented to all HQ team members. Excellent, scenic campus with full service cafeteria, coffee lounge, fitness center and dry cleaners. Historically, internal career growth was emphasized, but now growth means taking on a bigger job in addition to your former responsibilities.

    Cons

Company has been under the dark cloud of multiple private owners who want a return on their investment and who often disagree on long and short term direction. Very senior executive leader is extremely in the weeds but does not have the time or capacity to be. There is an expectation of very rapid delivery on initiatives, but critical decisions are help up at very senior levels. No matter how planful and strategic you attempt to be, it always comes down to an 11th hour scramble as decisions are finally made and then changed, and then changed again. There has been a focus on expense control for some time, but now in the hands of a non-US based CEO, unpopular decisions that were shied away from previously are now being made, e.g. closing of NYC flagship location and outsourcing of shared service functions. EBITDA goals being met via expense cutting over sales growth. Concerned for what the future holds for the brand in the US.

    Advice to Management

Keep US jobs in the US. Expense control is important, but not at the expense of the future beyond IPO.

    Pros

A laid back corporate environment. They try to make it a team environment. There's a gym, cafe and cafeteria. The campus is nice.

    Cons

There is not enough training. People go from meeting to meeting to meeting with very little direction. Nothing seems to ever get accomplished. If you want to learn something new you'll basically be teaching yourself.

    Advice to Management

Treat freelancers like they're people too instead of acting like they're an unwanted step child.

    Pros

Great benefits and co-workers, fun activities to boost morale, headquartered is in a beautiful setting

    Cons

work-life balance is always a challenge, expected to work many hours, need to bring back employee satisfaction survey and offer reverse review of supervisor/manager, turnover rate is extremely high

    Advice to Management

listen to your employees, acknowledge and praise them for their work, offer reward system for great work, bring back employee satisfaction survey and also offer opportunity for employee to review supervisor/manager (you will learn a lot of information from them)!

    Pros

The company is very family oriented as far as bringing your children to work on holidays and even rooms for mothers to bump during the day. Depending in who your management is, developing their people is really important to them.

    Cons

A lot of departments seem to work against each other when reality they should be working together. Sometimes that creates the feeling of too many cooks in the kitchen

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement, team-oriented environment, beautiful campus.

    Cons

In the private brands area in particular, there is no such things as work/life balance. They pay lip service to it, but in the end, the pressure is so great, the timelines so tight and the amount of time spent in meetings throughout the day so intense that most people can't get to their actual work until 5:30--the alleged end of the day. 11-13 hour days are the norm. Way too much time spent in meetings and on hundreds of unnecessary emails every day.

    Advice to Management

Stop changing leadership. Figure out what works and stay with it. No more upheaval.

    Pros

If you enjoy a large company, old technology and talking about other coworkers. Also, if you enjoy putting blame on others for your slack.

    Cons

Old technology. Gossipy environment. Many miserable data entry workers. Old computers/tables/facilities. No understanding of the creative environment and the right way to market and promote their multitude of merchandise.

    Advice to Management

You have 13 billion dollars in revenue. Invest in your technology and hire creative and innovative minds that are not treated like robots.

    Pros

Okay work life balance, it's feast or famine. Sometimes you'll find yourself working on memorial day. Sometimes you will be able to leave early depending on your workload.

    Cons

Pay is terrible until you get to director level.

They've reduced the health benefits 2 years in a row as the company is trying to cut costs.

Exec's and Management don't have a creative bone in their body. The TRU business strategy is find out what other creative things retailers are doing and copy it. Exec leadership hides in their tower all day also, when called out about it at a town hall their response was something like... "we get very busy."

Collaboration is impossible, the culture at TRU is of self preservation rather than ownership. Most of the time people are coming up with excuses and citing SLA's to get out of work.
