    Friendly and easy going atmosphere.

    Cons

Non so far. Retail is pretty much retail...you work hard and don't expect to get rich.

    Pros

You learn a lot about the products you sell and you start above minimum wage. The atmosphere is pretty good but that depends on the store.

    Cons

Corporate often does not stand up for their employees. In what situation a cashier was threatened by a customer but the customer received a $50 gift card from corporate!

    Advice to Management

Employees need a better way to communicate to corporate, and corporate needs to listen.

Used to be a decent company to work for. Now "Dollar General" of farm/ country stores, but pays worse than Walmart.

    Pros

You can build a great little team if you can get them to work for a little more than minimum wage. Great stock performance. Monthly sales bonuses. Annual profit bonus.

    Cons

Bonuses- If you blow it out of the water on a bonus (can make your pay worth it) you will definitely suffer from performance punishment of the next budget. Payroll. It is the easiest to control of expenses. You will never have a budget enough to run efficiently and the budget will constantly be cut to increase profits. You're reviewed on turnover. If you give satisfactory ratings to your employees, they get a 3% raise, but since you were required to cut 3% in payroll throughout the year, your budget will remain flat with a more expensive team. Turnover in Store Leadership is very high as you can't pay people enough to keep them. Fundamental problems in processes and supply chain with a deaf ear to fix any root problems that have cost associated. This is the cheapest company I've ever worked for. The SSC drives record profits times after time with stock that perform the best in retail. This is all done on the backs of the store personnel who are all overworked and underpaid while multi-unit managers and above bringing in great bonuses for the profits they drive. This company once published a book "Work Hard, Have Fun, Make Money: The Tractor Supply Story" showing how they decided to focus on the "Niche" market of the "Hobby Farmer". This is no longer the case as the company is now looking to the masses of everyone and losing focus on the farmer that laid their foundation.

    Advice to Management

This company needs change on the multi-unit to executive level of leadership. Give a little on the stock performance and invest back into your team and stores. Revise the Manager Advisory Board as it doesn't provide true results. The members are "Yes Men" trying to further their careers and when a process is tested, the DMs send instructions to "Make it work" no matter what. This flaws the processes that are held like the bible. Read the book "Work Hard, Have Fun, Make Money" that documented the success and growth of the company and get back to it. The future as it stands with the lien efficiency and mass customer focus is documented in the previous failure that almost sent this company under 25+ years ago. This is a growth company that seems to have it's sights on being the "little country Walmart", but will plateau out much quicker based on the competency of the SSC and stagnate in earnings like Walmart has for the past several years.

    Pros

Great customers, fast paced with changes daily that keep it interesting. Discount on your employee purchases

    Cons

cashier area is limited and shifts can be 8+ hrs with only a 30 minute lunch. Not much upward mobility and pay is low, which leads to high turnover and low quality applicants. Few options for full time employment.

    Advice to Management

Raise the pay rate across the board and tie it to experience. Someone with no experience should not be paid the same as a retail veteran with years of experience.

    Cons

Hard to get promoted from within, There are "favorites", Communication with stores takes time away from your work each day.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

It was an "ok" job. Not a lot of good to say about it.

    Cons

Unsupervised computer training with no one to ask questions. Very little floor training; it was like you were supposed to know what to do. One team leader would tell you one thing and another something else. Make up your mind. Store was not staffed properly and employees and management were stretched so thin that no one had any time to answer questions. They would get very busy and there was not enough staff to handle the crowd or the employees. Many times I was left to fend for myself.

    Advice to Management

Be there to train your employees. Don't throw them into the fire after watching a few videos and expect them to perform. Don't leave them alone on the floor for the first few weeks without anyone to supervise them and answer their questions. Don't worry so much about payroll budget; just get the store staffed when you need it so that everyone is not so busy and cranky. The way I was talked to is no way to treat an employee. When there is not enough staff, the customers are unhappy. There was more than once that I had to apologize to customers because there was no one to help them find something or load something. And many phone calls were left UNANSWERED. There were other customers that plain just WALKED OUT.
