I worked at Tractor Supply full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are good Nice building (corporate) Mostly nice and hard working coworkers See cons for more, can't think of much positive honestly

    Cons

Hard to move up within the company even if you are qualified (hire from outside-probably to keep costs down) Will add responsibilities to work load without adding pay or letting you move up Management doesn't listen to employees Felt stuck in entry level job "It's the way it's always been" mentality about a lot of processes Don't really listen to entry level people, even when they are doing the grunt work for the company Frustrating place to work when you have a high level of education but can't or aren't able to utilize it

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees If an employee works hard and continues to ask for more responsibilities let them move up or promote them If you really care about employees show it, don't just talk about how great the "culture and values" are Try harder to retain good hard working employees, don't just accept it when they say they have a better offer outside TSC, try to keep them if you really want to keep the good employees

I have been working at Tractor Supply (Less than a year)

    Pros

TSC is a great company that is growing FAST! Lots of opportunities to move up in the company if you show interest and are willing to work hard!

    Cons

Because they start you out at minimum wage, they usually hire people that don't really care about the store. It's just a job to make money. Which is fine I guess, if you just want a store that just gets by. I think they should raise the starting wage, so that they would have to be more picky with who they hire, therefore getting people that actually care about their job and the excellence of their store.

    Advice to Management

Have better hiring standards. You need people that will actually care about the store and do their best to keep it in excellent condition. Not people that just want a job. But someone that will go above and beyond.

    Pros

bonus, if your store actually makes money ( never saw a bonus once in the store i ran) good health care plans

    Cons

micro management underpaid for same box sized positions at other retailers. no praise, always criticism upper management is focused on numbers vs the people if you cannot meet company programs apparently your doing it wrong.

    Advice to Management

Competitive pricing , neighboring competition always beats the store i worked at and i could never get pricing due to restrictions set by the buyers in the company. Focusing on number's 100% is not the answer, listen to what the teams are telling you on why you cannot obtain the results , just because another store in the district does the same sales volume does NOT mean you should be just as good as them

    Pros

    New building. Variety of challenges.

    Cons

A company that prides itself on values has become very focused on drama and political bargaining. Lack of planning and fire fighting take all priority. Leadership continues to change, org changes frequent. People do not feel settled. Salaries poor.

    Advice to Management

Settle on a direction, give coaching, move forward with reason not just for sake of movement.
