I have been working at Tractor Supply full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I love the customers and the other employees.

    Cons

Low pay, poor management, I'm supposed to be full time & only work on average 30 hours a week.

I have been working at Tractor Supply part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Fun place to work. You certainly get lots of exercise! Pays better than a few corporations, although still not a living wage even in these rural areas.

    Cons

Not a living wage, partly due to the fact that at hiring, it was not disclosed how few hours we were actually going to be able to work. Even our management team is mostly not getting 40 hours, which discourages any interest in upward mobility. Lack of adequate training and communication. Day team ends up trying to train night team, and that should be management job not ours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benefits? What benefits? Practically everybody is part-time. Set realistic goals based in local demographics, not on some broad average. Stock things appropriate to the area and the season on the area. For example, there is a limited market for rubber boots in the desert southwest areas with limited or no irrigation.

I worked at Tractor Supply full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Customers, not pushy, knew what they wanted. Did not hesitate when it came to buy that particular item.Friendly and kind hearts, real down to earth type of people.

    Cons

Management, Grinding and demanding, always pushing new employees, providing no training and just in so many words figure it out!!!! No time to train always busy with something else, My manager was the forklift master, selfish and arrogant as a greedy lawyer!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lighten up and be like your customers!

I worked at Tractor Supply full-time for more than a year

    Pros

15% discount. That's about it. I said that's about it. Not many pros all cons terrible. Bad bad bad bad and bad

    Cons

There are so many cons. The will give anyone a team lead job and not pay them and let them be in charge or opening and closing and counting money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have got to give better bonuses. It's ridiculous. The company is strong profit wise but pay their employees terribly.

I have been working at Tractor Supply full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Tractor Supply holds to it's mission and values and is a great environment to be in. I've been with the company 4 years and in that time have had 3 promotions. This is a great place to grow and they have plenty of opportunities to do so.

    Cons

It's hard to have a work life balance with the varying schedule, but thus is retail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work!

I worked at Tractor Supply full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Strong code of ethics consistently adhered to.

Customer's generally pleasant, fun to deal with; fewer problem customers than big box.

Fair amount of schedule autonomy but needs of the business often dictate.

Definitely not accountable for as many metrics as big box.

    Cons

Compensation scale for hourly associates low; you end up hiring competitor's rejects.
Payroll percentage among the lowest; you make up the difference.

Planogram/set changes never stop; many seem pointless.

People who built company and understood our customer are gone; senior management has no experience at store level, does not identify with our customers.

Priorities have shifted from having "lifestyle" employees (read as knowledgeable and experienced in farm work) to having employees who are good cleaners. Being spotlessly clean more important than anything else.

Being in-stock simply not a priority for last 6+ years; systems in place for sm to improve levels of A velocity sku's very ineffectual.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your core customer and on being the most dependable supplier of basic supplies to farmer/rancher.
( I read that somewhere....) Get really good at that.

I worked at Tractor Supply full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is a real friendly place to work, you build a real good relationship with the customers. This job will keep you in shape.

    Cons

There are not enough employees a lot of the time. Payroll always seems to be an issue, even if SALES are made for the current month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
