I worked at TradeStation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The commute was a short distance from home. I worked a decent shift (8am-4:30pm). Every Friday, employees got free bagels, muffins, and coffee from Panera Bread.

    Cons

Bored out of my mind! A lot grown women acting like they were in kindergarten. If you didn't want to be part of their click, they made sure you were ostracized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Protect employees from experiencing a hostile work environment. Do not brush off complaints, and make sure you follow through.

    Pros

People are very professional and respectful. The company treats its employees very well, providing great benefits, but not much fluff and gimmicks like a lot of companies do to try to attract talent. TradeStation is a solid company and is good to their employees.

    Cons

The company culture can be challenging for high achievers. There are many long time employees who are out of touch with modern technology and resist change. The company is technologically stuck in the year 2000. Dealing with the legacy systems and old school mentality causes so much pain it drives good developers right out the door, leaving behind many developers who are happy to stagnate. The company is so worried about the problems of today and is completely missing the opportunities of tomorrow. The company feels old and clunky.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Innovate! Foster an environment of fresh ideas and new perspectives. Keep good talent and get rid of the dead weight. Hold people accountable for refusing to modernize and innovate. Bring back the culture that the company once had when things were still fresh & new. Compete head to head with the big name brokerages, there's no reason they should be better than TradeStation at anything. Don't settle for maintaining past performance, demand growth.

    Pros

People you work with can be really nice and if you fit in, you will feel like part of a family.
Enjoyed the projects I worked on since they became technically challenging so there is good support from team members.

    Cons

I found many flaws with the management styles starting with how they handle or manage projects. I worked in several departments under IT but middle management needs to understand how to effectively communicate especially in English. If you don't know Spanish you will be left in the dust. This company has absolutely no diversification of people from different walks of life. Got way too stale and management will easily blindside you with litte recognition for hard work.
Annual reviews are a joke and company is very cheap in salary raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get diversified!!

    Pros

    Cons

Several incompetent employees that are just pay check collecting, same goes for the some of management that has been here for 10+ years

I worked at TradeStation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Management has their heart in the right place. The intention, to build great technology and a great culture.

    Cons

The company hasn't had a real profit in a long time. The sector is on a very strong decline. There is no choice other than to get leaner and more draconian. It's nobody's fault, just a bad market. Management has been in denial.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When/if layoffs come, do it all at once, quickly. Treat the remaining teams really well.

I have been working at TradeStation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Management understand technical personnel. Good work-life balance, few instances of overtime (usually only during production outages, which should be rare). Would definitely recommend working here.

    Cons

Working with IT is a pain. Lots of bravado in that department. Slow release cycles.

I have been working at TradeStation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There is some talent here and for most part people at the lower job levels are friendly. Good job security. Decent benefits.

    Cons

This company has no promoting potential. Talented people stay in the same position here year in and out without any chance for being promoted. When there are positions available 95% of the time they are filled from outside the company. Upper management is not supportive of people moving up within the company. Management (PM) does not treat lower ranks employees with respect, instead expects them to be 'miracle' workers and to complete their assignments despite unrealistic planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop blaming the lower ranks for your lack of good planning and start taking responsibility for your actions. If your planning fails to materialize into the desired outcome, it is you who is at fault (and ultimately responsible) - own, realize and acknowledge it instead of finding excuses and blaming others. Management needs to be periodically evaluated and held just as accountable as any other employees. Quotes to live by that show good leadership:
"Developing people so they move on to bigger and better things is one of the most important things to do as a manager of people"
"Good talent is hard to find and harder to keep, so talent retention should be the top priority of any company" (including Tradestation).
