I have been working at TradeStation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Talented engineers that bring the latest technologies to the table

    Cons

Several incompetent employees that are just pay check collecting, same goes for the some of management that has been here for 10+ years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop backslapping the lifers and bring in some fresh blood

    Pros

Management has their heart in the right place. The intention, to build great technology and a great culture.

    Cons

The company hasn't had a real profit in a long time. The sector is on a very strong decline. There is no choice other than to get leaner and more draconian. It's nobody's fault, just a bad market. Management has been in denial.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When/if layoffs come, do it all at once, quickly. Treat the remaining teams really well.

I have been working at TradeStation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management understand technical personnel. Good work-life balance, few instances of overtime (usually only during production outages, which should be rare). Would definitely recommend working here.

    Cons

Working with IT is a pain. Lots of bravado in that department. Slow release cycles.

I have been working at TradeStation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is some talent here and for most part people at the lower job levels are friendly. Good job security. Decent benefits.

    Cons

This company has no promoting potential. Talented people stay in the same position here year in and out without any chance for being promoted. When there are positions available 95% of the time they are filled from outside the company. Upper management is not supportive of people moving up within the company. Management (PM) does not treat lower ranks employees with respect, instead expects them to be 'miracle' workers and to complete their assignments despite unrealistic planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop blaming the lower ranks for your lack of good planning and start taking responsibility for your actions. If your planning fails to materialize into the desired outcome, it is you who is at fault (and ultimately responsible) - own, realize and acknowledge it instead of finding excuses and blaming others. Management needs to be periodically evaluated and held just as accountable as any other employees. Quotes to live by that show good leadership:
"Developing people so they move on to bigger and better things is one of the most important things to do as a manager of people"
"Good talent is hard to find and harder to keep, so talent retention should be the top priority of any company" (including Tradestation).

I worked at TradeStation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are many talented people here with great ideas and start off with motivation. However, with the current regime, that motivation quickly disappears.

    Cons

The company talks about global vision, however, they lack focus on establishing those goals. Company is throwing many people towards these “global” projects, but if you ask me, this cannot be supported for the long run. It is just a matter of time before the axe comes out and cuts start.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Polish up your resumes, retire, or deflate your egos and allow some new and innovative people to take over. There is no accountability, which has allowed the lifers to continue their regime and grow their bank accounts, but not grow the company.

I have been working at TradeStation full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good salary but new hire will have very difficult time to get adjusted with work environment.

    Cons

There is absolutely no documentation for new hire to get to know the product that they will be working on. The company is run by paycheck collectors and incompetent Management. There is no future here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace management to suit the business need!! Hire competence and individuals that actually understand the business and know how to promote agile in workplace.

    Pros

Agile development environment. Great opportunities to learn and grow. Learning is encouraged and there are company programs to reimburse for certifications and classes

    Cons

Promotions are rare and people tend to keep their jobs for a very long time so there are very few openings to get into the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the growth and refinement of a great company

    I worked at TradeStation full-time

    Pros

Good place to learn cutting-edge technologies.

    Cons

Lack of documentation makes it difficult to understand a lot of the product concepts. You should be comfortable with securities trading terminology. Bonuses are not paid in cash, but in company stock which does not fully vest for several years.
