I have been working at Trafigura full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - excellent bonuses - fast pace environment forces you to learn quickly - ability to move around within the company to different roles

    Cons

    - very cut-throat environment where you see firings and resignings happen often - training is not necessarily their forte - hours worked are ridiculous... a lot of these positions should be geared towards young professionals w/o families

    Advice to Management

    - emphasize better training schedule - stop cutting costs and hire more help if needed...

    Pros

Free health insurance for entire family Company is financially stable Good if you are looking to grow in the oil/metals business Use this company to gain knowledge and knowhow of the business, then MOVE ON.

    Cons

POOR personal life/family life balance POOR salary structure. (They say due to bonus but lately bonuses are terrible. POOR Management SHADY business practices.

    Advice to Management

Managment is horribly setup. Main office wants control of everything but you report to local managers that arent proper managers, so they will do what it takes to keep you looking bad to corporate office. No formal training is done to these managers. Company policies are terrible. "travel on your own time" then if you travel this afternoon you must work until your flight on that day. I am giving up my weekend or evenigns with my kids, the least they can do is allow you some time in lieu. The company doesnt care about its employees. All they care about is more money more money. No raises in two years, they said it was becasue shares went up. This is irrelevent. Bonuses continute to go down. I left the company and am making $25K elsewhere.

    I worked at Trafigura full-time

    Pros

Work with self-motivated, mostly high calibre individuals. Opportunity to develop commercial skills and be involved in significant commodity transactions that involve multiple departments across the company. Encourage pursuit of commercial ideas for capable individuals. Generally good teamwork ethic amongst traders and operators.

    Cons

An internal individual with a previous track record in another commodity is often promoted internally ahead of an external individual with specific product knowledge for senior roles (saves big money hire and maintains inner circle). Additionally, a biz dev track record is perceived as also capable in people management role too. This leads to individuals with poor ability in leading and developing a team being responsible for strategy and growth in a product they potentially have little track record or understanding of. Very high turn over across the company - not great for morale. Company still run at senior level as though it were much smaller than it has now become - very political, despite claims of 'flat structure'.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to find competent individuals with genuine management skills to run desks, who also have sufficient product experience to provide strategy and capability to execute. Grow volumes and PnL sensibly and develop individuals rather than assuming you can continue to build a sustainable team with such high turn over. Fear of job loss is not conducive to increasing productivity.

    Pros

Good Pay, Decent benefits, No Nagging, No Policy culture- Whatever you want becomes a policy, Some smart people, Deep pockets, International Opportunities, A brag about $150 Billion Revenue, Lots of Group Companies to explore, Truly International.

    Cons

Well, here is the problem, and you would need to prioritize between pros and cons. Select what you like. 1. Negligible presence in India, no one knows about this shop. 2. The age old mentality that Indians are good for back-end work. 3. Age old technologies in IT space, which cannot support the group's growth, yet someone sitting in a black room takes a call and the group suffers. 4. Indian Management runs without a Vision, they are more interested in bonuses than doing good. Too much gold plating of the european bosses. 5. Since the company is predominantly run by Europeans, they treat Indian colleagues as side workers. 6. You might end up scouting for work, and might make yourself irrelevant sooner. Post which your acceptance back in the industry will become extremely challenging. 7. No Training, No Knowledge sharing, no skill enhancement. 8. No retention policy, frequent Hire and Fire, you might be asked to pack your bags in a day. 9. Frequent office shutdowns, they can close any office any day. 10. No job security, every day is a challenge, and you start cursing your fate in what you have got into. 11. The company is on a Auto Pilot, tremendously lacks innovation, in fact innovation will show you the door, intelligence will as well. 12. The company works with some really bad IT vendors, who do not understand the global ecosystems and spend more time impressing the decision makers to retain work. 13. Too much politics, Friends and Family companies are given work, and they produce bad work and charge a bomb to the group. Such decisions are taken in isolation and whistle blowing will show you the door. 14. Open and shut work, you might work on something, just to find out that it has been scrapped, and you start again. 15. The number of people staying more than 6 months is rare, hence the organization is not able to build a cultural fabric, which can excite you. 16. Your boss is your god, and you both are in the firing line anytime. 17. The HR tries, but even they are in the same boat, save themselves. 18. The group's reputation across the world is not being ethical organization. Read more about its business or even wiki page. (May be because of the industry it operates in) 19. Teams get scrapped faster than they are built, and the lack of vision is what you get frustrated with. 20. You might end up working for a truck driver, or an oil driller, or someone who is least expected to hold a position of authority, yet has reached there by someone's blessings.

    Advice to Management

Try to build a stable organization especially in India. Not much is being done here in India to build a stable organization and the global board is kept in dark. The trading side is an integral part of the company, but other units (IT, Admin, HR, Finance etc) are as important as the rest, but yet are treated as a stepchild.

    Pros

Good management, Good Pay, Awesome Bonuses, Good learning

    Cons

Always scarcity of resources. They just won't add more people to do work. They pay 1.5 time of the market standard but will get 2X work too. If you are a work horse, then it is a good company to join.

    Advice to Management

    Do some capacity management.

I have been working at Trafigura full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, policies, pay. Pretty flat organisation structure.

    Cons

No work in the IT group and the management does not care. Revolving door policy and the people asking for work are rewarded with them being fired. Bosses work with own people from prev org and promote them. POLITICS Galore and too much chaos with no documetation as the head is busy saving her job. London office is ramped down with most of the work getting outsourced. Won't be surprised if everyone in IT is let go by year end.

    Advice to Management

    No advice.
