I have been working at Trane full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Historically home to some of the best and brightest in the HVAC industry. Innovative environment and high degree of communication and coordination. Leveraged strengths across sectors.

    Cons

Recent reorganization and aftermath saw the exit of some of the most talented and well respected business and IT people. Business units have in some ways become silos. Harder to leverage expertise across the enterprise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recent decision to bring IT infrastructure back in house a huge improvement. Certain large scale IT initiatives have suffered from lack of transparency into the true state of the project and a disconnect with how business actually operates.

    Pros

The individual contributors at the company have excellent technical skill sets. Most people are on a 35-40 hour workweek.

    Cons

It is all about management and the culture they are driving. The culture the managers are driving hurts the employees and companies long term success. Many new employees are recruited out of other companies under false pretenses. When they arrive they find a culture where yelling, swearing, belittling, and intimidating are the norms of how people operate. Middle Managers cannot be held accountable for their statements or actions, and most have reached their positions through networking not success or experience. Senior managers are weak in their leadership abilities. Often leaders delay making major decisions for months, and the delays do severe damage to project schedules and cash flows. Up and down the management ladder individuals choose to hide business risks and shortcomings and instead resort to one of 4 options: yell, hide, be-unclear, or reorganize.

    Pros

Trane is a wonderful company to work for. Excellent benefits, great leadership, wonderful work environment. Training is provided that is easy to understand and thorough. Everyone really works together as a team.

    Cons

Sometimes there seems to be little opportunity for growth into higher positions. It would be nice to see an opportunity for people to grow in their positions as well as throughout the company.

I have been working at Trane full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Competitive compensation. They pay well for the stress they generate.

    Cons

No management systems exist. Everything is personality driven, not process reliant. If one person leaves their position those left must re-create the wheel. We don't evaluate how many man-hours are required to maintain the status quo, nor how many more we should add to make changes to the lines. Everyone ends up with too much on their plate and nothing gets done to any sort of standard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be done 'trimming' the salaried support staff at the plant level. Start building up the management systems and supporting them at the plant level.
