    Pros

    They value family/vacation time. The moving packages for employees transferring locations is better than any other company I know. They have really good benefits, although the insurance plan is changing so the health benefits won't be as good as they used to be.

    Cons

    Compensation is no great shakes. Promotions are few and far between. If you're not Canadian, you probably aren't going very far in this company.

    Advice to Management

    It's okay to let people do their jobs and trust them to make decisions. It's also okay to hold contractors responsible for their mistakes. Novel, I know.

    Cons

    Travel away from home often. Under Manpower to cover large area with multiple task, projects.

    Hire more employees to reduce the travel & stress to complete multiple jobs.

    Pros

    A great company headed in a great direction. Overall just NICE people to work with -- people will take time to help you, and the politics are kept to a minimum. A rarity among companies today, and quite refreshing from most of the jobs I've held. Salary and benefits are terrific. The salary is very competitive, but so is getting a job here -- they want good candidates and they want to keep their employees. The health benefits are top notch. Retirement benefits are also the best of any company I've ever worked for. I put 5% of my salary into my 401K, and they match that entire 5% PLUS add another 7%. So that's 17% going into my retirement account, and I only had to put in 5% of it. Immediate vesting. Pretty nice! They also have a pension option in lieu of the extra 7% 401k contribution.

    Cons

    Thus far I personally have not found any cons, although I have only worked here for a few months. However, I work on the US side, and I do hear rumblings from some of my colleagues that the Canada side sometimes does not fully understand the needs of the US side. Since the decisions are made in Canada (Calgargy headquarters), I suppose sometimes that could translate into an issue.

    Pros

    decent pay, good benefits, nice office

    Cons

    work load! constant management changes, work load, middle management that really knows little about what they are managing. Not nearly enough field employees. work load.

    Advice to Management

    We seem to have plenty vice presidents and directors, but not enough people that actually do the work. Don't have salary ranges and then only "allow" people to get to the middle of them and no higher.

    Pros

    Great benefits, great work & life balance, and good people to work with

    Cons

    Promotion is not based on performance, rather seniority. Pay is not tied to performance. Unnecessary need to use team leads that adds another layer to business processes. No minority member of the executive leadership team, not even in the Director position, VP, Senior VPs, or Executive Leadership Team (it's still a white man's world at TransCanada).

    Advice to Management

    Eliminate team leads, we're are all professionals and not high school student at a grocery store that needs someone to push us around and monitor our actions. Delegate and people will more than deliver. Hire or promote a minority member to the executive leadership team. Tie pay and promotion to performance not Seniority.
