Pros
Coworkers are great. Lots of comrodery. Laid back office environment. Never work more than 40 hrs per week nor is it expected for you to take your work home with you.
Cons
Very little room for advancement. Never any pay raises. Upper level management does not provide opportunities to grow. In fact, they seem to inhibit growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Motivate employees with the prospect of advancement. When employees feel there is nothing to work towards (bonuses, pay raise, promotion, etc) there is very little motivation to work hard.
Pros
Met a lot of friends there
Cons
Old technology. Doesnt matter since its subscription revenue though
Pros
The staff whom are not upper management.
Cons
Micromanagement and overbearing Management Team
Management extremely cliquish, no one to refer to
Very low pay
No growth potential
Ran like a state prison, up to and including camera everywhere throughout the building being monitored by management at all times
Advice to Senior Management
Learn that respect should be given to everyone up to and including your subordinates.
Pros
Good benefits, very little or no stress, good team members, newest development tools, no micromanagement, casual work environment, very flexible work hours, and easy to get time off for whatever I needed.
Cons
Low pay for mid to senior level developers, not enough opportunity to learn about new technologies, no free food or drinks.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay the developers money that is more on par with the rest of the companies in the area. People outside of the company know that TransCore does not pay well.
Pros
Good salary & benefits
New Technologies to learn
Cons
No work life balance
Authoritative & Autocratic Manager
Micro Management
No respect
No formal structure
Advice to Senior Management
Please change the autocratic policies and inquiry on employee retention..
Pros
Project work can be challenging and interesting. Some good processes (hardware and software) in place that ensure quality products are produced and projects are delivered.
Cons
No real career progression. Outside hires seem to be favored over internal candidates. For promotion it seems you need to leave and then come back in a different position.
Company performance not communicated with technical staff. Its hard/impossible to know if hard work is helping company bottom line.
Advice to Senior Management
Introduce career paths and promote technical staff from within. Increase communication with technical staff on how the company is meeting its goals/objectives.
Pros
Transcore maintains and fosters a cooperative environment among its many locations that makes it easy to obtain resources for a project even on very little notice. Most of the people in the San Diego software development offices are highly intelligent and easy to work with. They take a solid engineering approach to their software design and internally, product quality supercedes deadlines. They tend to do things the right way from the beginning, making it easy to maintain the projects in the long term. TransCore had a familiar feel, and the satellite project offices are well supported even from the highest levels of corporate management.
Cons
Because a great deal of TransCore's work is project-based, they tend to be hawkish on expenses especially in those project offices. Purchases are made on the cheap and often, engineers may have to make due with what's available rather than being well equipped to complete their goal. Salaries are minimal, and retirement benefits nonexistent at the non-management level. While this is not completely atypical of contract shops, it makes TransCore a difficult place to stay for long if you are an individual with a family to support. They do offer a good work/life balance, but it comes at the expense of salary.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase communication with non-managers and provide a way for associates to have visibility into the company's direction and goals.
