A Better Opportunity Than Some Other Places I've Worked

I have been working at TransFirst full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The commission potential is what drew me in during the interview. It's a great atmosphere, and the people are all friendly. Three weeks of training was great - that's three weeks more than I got at some other places.

    Cons

The base is low, but the commission potential pretty much makes up for that. Some negativity from some co-workers, but it's clear that this is a sales floor. Don't gripe, make your calls and the money will follow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the people there are great, but the few negative attitudes need to be addressed. Nothing breaks motivation like a whiney neighbor who would rather moan than actually do the work expected of him/her.

I worked at TransFirst full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Easy to move up in IT due to low competition because TransFirst doesn't attract top IT talent.

    Cons

    - Cronyism in the leadership group is very large issue; if you're not in the inner circle, don't expect to be treated with respect (leadership starts from the architect group on up).
    - Leadership's main concern appears to be the IPO, instead of then long-term health of the IT org.
    - Leadership doesn't appear to be capable of properly communicating new initiatives or procedures that are to be implemented.
    - Leadership doesn't truly listen to their IT staff.
    - Direction within the org changes frequently with little to no communication.
    - IT staff are either overworked or are idle.
    - The morale at the Broomfield office is terrible; appears to be the same at their Aurora office.
    - Turnover is very high at both locations.
    - Bonuses are always under target.

I have been working at TransFirst part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The job pays $10 an hour plus $175+ per deal you close.

    Cons

It is a pretty cold sales environment. The industry isn't very reputable so people will hang up on you all the time. The sales process is incredibly long for the amount of commission you make on the sale.

I have been working at TransFirst

    Pros

Great people that I worked with that were a lot of fun. Interesting industry with plenty of opportunities to learn.

    Cons

Limited upward mobility and raises. Management is very divided and departments are silo'd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in developing your team and growing them individually. Also, invest in IT, systems are out of date and risk isn't monitored analytically.

    Pros

Great colleagues, we are collectively fed up with the direction of IT, so camaraderie is prevalent. You can step up and make a mark for yourself rather easily. There isn't much competition for those who are technically proficient.

    Cons

Cronyism up high, enterprise level business at a medium business level infrastructure, budget is constantly frozen, owned by a private firm who is looking to sell, not improve. Salaries are slightly below average. Raises are rarely 3% or more. Bonuses are always well under your target. Initiatives seemingly change weekly. Lying to executives and business stakeholders is encouraged by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust those who are constantly in the trenches, they know what it takes to fix IT. Trusting those who play games on the sidelines is not the way, and it is glaringly obvious that you are playing favorites. Most of your true performers/difference makers are all looking to bail.

    Short Experience, job elimination

I have been working at TransFirst

    Pros

    None as of right now.

    Cons

Work Life balance wasn't always a company priority. Training was slow and lacked any documentation. Manager worked remotely and had many other projects and priorities rather than training, or follow up.
Company closed the Overland Park office and eliminated many positions.

I have been working at TransFirst full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Work/Life balance, Inspirational Staff, Great Culture, Definitely a solid industry to get into (Payment processing is a growing industry, and one that is as close to "recession-proof" as it goes). Great comp structure for sales (low base, but GREAT commission potential). Great training program for sales, with dedicated sales trainers (mostly working on the floor with current employees).

    Cons

High expectations - goals are set, and tools/resources are provided to help you accomplish these goals, but the expectations are clear and high. It's a sales floor... some people are built for sales, and some are not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing!! Remember to support the folks that support you.

    Pros

The sales office is a very supportive environment. Experienced reps are willing to help and share their experience. Positive attitude is a must & the energy is positive! The industry is a challenge to learn. The managers and trainers are very knowledgeable and want to genuinely help you succeed. Outstanding on-going training available. Flex-time and benefits are a real plus!

    Cons

Long hours to keep up. Very high expectations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the communication open for honest feedback. Attending the recent annual meeting made me even more proud to work for TransFirst.
