I have been working at Transfield Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady pay check, 2 weeks on 2 off good shift.

    Cons

Management in way over their heads. No communication what so ever. Any decent workers use this company as a stepping stone to going to work for another company. Nothing is done for appreciation of doing a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire management that has qualifications

I have been working at Transfield Services full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The pay is great. I know I won't be on the same pay grade if I go elsewhere.

    Cons

Despite pay being great, Transfield don't look after their staff. There are few opportunities for professional growth, training or even obtaining basic resources to do the job such as software, human resources or equipment.
Out-sourcing shared services has led to serious losses in efficiency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop draining contracts of their resources. I understand the need to save a buck, but look to efficiencies in corporate operations before risking the welfare of operational staff and company reputation.

I worked at Transfield Services full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pays well. Recognised organisation. Alot of information during training process. IT support is great.
Work vehicles are a good bonus. Meet alot of people from all trades

    Cons

Unorganised management filters to workers below. Alot of inefficient processes conducted.
Too many hoops to jump through just to make your job easier and quicker, benefiting everyone you surround. New departments struggle to gain traction due to senior management not cooperating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the workers at the bottom. Their ideas can cut alot of cost

    Some very good managers
Has a long history of finding a way to do anything

    Cons

    Short Term focus
Lack of quality over arching systems and process - very fragmented
Outsourced IT to India which takes ages to resolve anything
Poorly paid management and supervisory positions henceforth poor quality
Managers consistently asked to aid with tenders/transitions of new contracts which is never reflected in annual salary review

I worked at Transfield Services full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The remaining field staff are knowledgeable and supportive, I liked the varied work outdoors and good customers, the health and safety culture was improving, vans and tools supplied, pay is good depending on job type, I felt that this industry was experiencing growth, the job has many aspects from customer service, technical trouble shooting, physical labor, confined space to working at heights, training is good, job itself is great.

    Cons

in my opinion and from what I have seen heard and experienced the industry is going down hill fast due to bad contracts made with the client Chorus to secure work but it has come at a huge cost, If this continues then a minimum wage job will be better than this job and I wont look back.

The above pros will disappear if counter measures are put in place from restructure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the current contract with Chorus is self destructive to the company and NZ, renegotiate a fair and sustainable contract, secure staff and create sustainability, the current direction of the company has no clear direction, many staff will jump ship, and with the unsustainable staff levels the financial burden will sink Transfield as performance will suffer hence, Chorus will act accordingly.

I have been working at Transfield Services

    Pros

To work in an Electrical Industry in NZ, you can only work for a contracting company like transfield Services in most of the cases.

    Cons

Hard to ask for pay rise once you are in the company even that you have earn lot more experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hard to ask for pay rise once you are in the company even that you have earn lot more experience. People will just move to another company when they had enough.
