I have been working at Transocean

    Pros

Salary, benefits, compressed work week (off at 11 a.m. every Friday), facilities, friendliness of employees, nice location, private office space, paid parking, the company is interesting and exciting.

    Cons

Managers have heavy travel schedules making access to them difficult. And what does that mean for the average employee? Employee performance evaluations suffer, relationships suffer, communication suffers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce travel for managers of individual contributors.

I have been working at Transocean

    Pros

higher that average salaries, great benefits, pension, half day friday, new employee vacation based on experience and not on time with company

    Cons

somewhat interesting, not challenging, and frustrating at time due to slow moving management, salaries higher than average for experience that is lower than average, practically no accountability, almost no inter/intra departmental communications despite being on the same project

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your employees, director level and below managers need to put more faith in their employees and create an environment of risk and reward, and challenge your employees by putting more trust in them which will build trust and make them more accountable

    Pros

    haven't had a layoff in 9 years.
very stable work schedule and long term contracts. decent training program in place.

    Cons

I have been working at Transocean

    Pros

Meeting people as I travel throughout the world.

    Cons

As with any company there are downsides. For Transocean it depends on your job. If you are in Projects, as I currently am, then you sacrifice time away from your family as 90% of you job will be on location. There are times when your family can visit, but there are projects that can be in remote and even dangerous parts of the world (i.e. Nigeria) that can drag out for six months to a year. Another down side for working with Transocean is the nature of the industry. Currently the industry can not hire people fast enough, but there will be a time when the market corrects itself and we could have a repeat of the 80's, early 2000's, but I guess this can be said for other industries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To be more open with information that will effect staff.
