Advice to Senior Management
The leadership is overall good in Travelers. I can see that they are always trying to improve the process and make things better in the company.
Pros
great benefits, a lot of company resources, management treats you like you are on the same level, overtime availability is a bonus
Cons
high stress level, phone rang off the hook all day, overload of work compared to mandatory hours and best practices
Advice to Senior Management
create more claim centers across regions to lighten the workload for each employee to ensure that best practices are followed and corner cutters are not held in a higher regard due higher quantity of claims resolved vs playing by the rules
Pros
Good benefits, vacation time, decent work/life balance
Cons
Slow to change/adapt new ideas, difficult to feel like individual contributions add value, "sit at desk to accomplish work" culture.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus more on removing barriers and supporting employees to grow. Less red tap and more support to grow ideas into reality.
Pros
Great people to work with
Intellectual staff
Strong finances
great compensation for an intern
Sends all interns to Hartford for a symposium
Cons
Very conservative work environment. Although headquartered in St. Paul, the office is shrinking rapidly ever since the merger. A lot of the higher up positions are filled in St. Paul but moved to Hartford.
Advice to Senior Management
Grow the St. Paul office or close it, the building sitting half empty is a waste.
Pros
Proud to work for a top notch company; generous vacation/sick time; good benefits; 401k, etc; Lots of opportunities to move around the company to identify new career opportunities.
Cons
Long, stressful days for some...not for all. Sometimes hard to understand who gets ahead and why. Not a lot of time to adjust to changes before more changes are made.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to stop onboarding more layers of upper management but instead to invest in the layer and infrastructure here in the US.
Pros
They have good employee morale and make sure you are a happy worker
You don't get micro managed and can work at your own pace
You can work from home and they provide a car, cell phone, lap top and other benefits.
Cons
Can get very busy with claims and may be called for CAT duty for 1-3 weeks at a time
Attention to detail a must
Advice to Senior Management
N/A
Pros
-no stress
-good managers
-decent pay
Cons
-not much growth opportunities while with the company
Advice to Senior Management
more incentives
Pros
Great benefits and overall retirement assistance as well as a comfortable atmosphere and ability to work independently without excess management micromanaging
Cons
Limited growth in certain areas, sometimes there is a sense of secrecy and stunted communication between the regular employees and middle and higher managemen
Advice to Senior Management
Understanding and be more open to feedback, more open communication with employees, encourage hard work and reward hard work, emphasize an atmosphere of work pride and not fear of losing employment
Pros
Limitless opportunities if you desire and are willing to work.
Cons
Travelers claim is very results driven. This can turn some people off, however if you are driven and want to succeed, the goals are attainable.
Pros
Excellent movement for growth. Friendly management and employees. Rewarding work. Definitely a place where you feel that you can stay for a career.
Cons
Can get really busy during end of fiscal year. Renewal policies for insured can get stressful. Brokers also tend to get on your back.
