Pros
good employee benefits such as paid time off
Cons
bad management as in my manager was interested in and commented on people's clothing, etc. referring to it as "ghetto"
Advice to Senior Management
Quit hiring people who are not qualified and quit promoting your friends, wives, etc. who can't even do the job. I've seen underwriters who shop on line all day and collect a paycheck for nothing and have personally told me that did one thing all day long while some of us worked hard all day, everyday - pathetic.
Pros
Great benefits, challenging duties, great coworkers.
Cons
Can be a political place...not merit based. They make you jump through hoops for any recognition. Management tries to hold best employees back. They try to make you do more and more with no end in sight...Everyone from claims to staff counsel is overwhelmed and the pressure continues to mount on the employees back.
Advice to Senior Management
You mae wise decisions during the initial crash of the market..no loosen the belts slightly and hire more people. If not more will leave to other companies. Not everyone believes that there are no jobs out there.
Pros
The salary is way above average. The office is in the suburbs vs downtown. The computer systems are modern and they are updating.
Cons
Management does not give good direction on file handling. Many fellow employees act unprofessionally to customers. Managers are never around.
Advice to Senior Management
The training program, not the home office training, needs a revamp. Many new hires don't even understand their job from the training they received.
Pros
Excellent place to learn. Great for people just out of college. Many smart ambitious people. Lots of things going on. Connecticut is expensive but close to Boston, New York. Lots of things to do outdoors.
Cons
Not much going on inHartford. Work wise, like I said, a good place to start a career but I did not like for where I was in my career. Certain thing lacked common sense.
Advice to Senior Management
Thanks for letting people try things
Pros
Immediate supervisors and managers are great. Co-workers are great and create a postive work environment in spite of corporate directives.
Cons
Good Employees do not receive raises for multiple years in a row even though company is trading at an all time high and underwriting profits are good. Directed to be customer focused but workload makes that prohibitive.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to and reward employees-don't use the economy as an excuse not to reward job performance.
Pros
Travelers is the most family friendly organization I have ever worked for. I loved that there were many women and young professionals. I really enjoyed the work and would definitely recommend applying while in law school!
Cons
Some of the offices are practice area specific and this could lead to you being pigeon holed into one practice area.
Pros
Job Security and company was doing well during recession
Cons
Title and job does not match. Lot of executives/director/2nd VP without proper fit for the job
Advice to Senior Management
Change in their attitude and justify to thier roles
Pros
Travelers seems to compensate their employees fairly and a little above market value. They give plenty of time off for someone who is just starting with the company. Travelers is a nationwide leader in insurance and seems to have avoided some of the pit falls that took down AIG, Safeco, and others.
Cons
While plenty of time off is given, one comes back to nightmarish work load that makes you re-think taking any time off. Their market strategies also go back and forth too often and will often change is a single year. This constant shift is greeted w/ skepticism by our agents.
Advice to Senior Management
Within my business unit, I feel that we need to formulate strategies that don't shift so frequently...allowing our customers (agents) to receive a consistent message.
Pros
great money, great benefits, lots of time off
Cons
you're just a number, will not close for bad weather even if it puts employees in danger, no advancement opportunities, some managers are completely unqualified
Pros
Solid Company in terms of business and security
Cons
Not much growth opportunities. Title might change work content wont change much.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide some creative ways to stimulate employees incentives such as work from home and dont be cheap.
