I worked at Travelers Companies as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

They have a lot of training classes and sources. Everyone is encouraged to take some time from work to learn something useful.

    Cons

Slow path of promotions. So many of the employees decide to leave after 2 or 3 years.

Good people, bad systems. Lots of opportunity, but easier if you are related to someone high up.

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Large, financially sound, many offices, and opportunities.

    Cons

Compensation favors new employees and leaves existing employees behind.
    Relatives get ahead faster.
Puts office locations in the suburbs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should take a look at your current employees how are committed to the company (i.e. the millennials that didn't leave after 3-5 years) and make sure they are compensated commensurate with their peers. That's why we are leaving....

I worked at Travelers Companies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Secure company
    Great stock.
Good place to start your career. Good young professionals network and college programs

    Cons

Charge you an arm and a leg to park half mile away, expensive cafeteria with OK food. Too many levels of Management. No one takes accountability. What the heck is a second VP? Too impressed with themselves. Pricing themselves out of the market. Amateur VP's. Head count and budgets rule the roost. No innovation. Dollar short and a day late. Run by bean counters. Investments make profit, products don't. Great place to start your career, but get out after 5 years or you will be a lifer. CT taxes and cost of living not worth it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Loose the old boy network.

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Collaborative work environment with bonus opportunities for star performers. Stock prices are climbing in the right direction providing security for retirement years. A great company to work for!

    Cons

Plan to work hard- you will not survive here if you are not hard working and dedicated. Hard work is rewarded with bonuses but you will need to balance work/life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep lines of communication open.

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A majority of people here are very nice and supportive though some others can come off as very rude. A lot of business networks allow employees to become engaged and expand their networks and management so far is very supportive of development. There are lots of opportunities and development programs for young talent just getting into the workforce from college and a lot of support to get them to learn a lot about their jobs and the industry.

    Cons

Salaries are not high enough after several years on the job. A lot of older folks in the company in processing type roles are not efficient enough and workloads between entry level college graduates and folks who have been around for 45 years in the same job remain very uneven and skewed. Though there is a lot of great exposure, there is also a large workload where you should be paid more in salary for the time that is put in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lose some unnecessary weight to increase efficiency and increase salaries for those who warrant it.
