    Pros

Great benefits; company hires with the intent to promote from within; company is all about individual personal development; company seems to pay better than competitors.

    Cons

    All hourly people are not treated equal; some departments are micro managed, where other departments treat the employee like responsible adults;

    Advice to Management

Treat all hourly employees equal, don't punish the masses for the few; take the individuals causing the problems aside and address those individual problems separately.

    Pros

I enjoyed the pay, the benefits, and my coworkers. If you want to be a claim handler or underwriter it's a great place to be, you can move up.

    Cons

The scoring metrics are very petty and stupid. Out of the entire office of about 50 csr's only 7 made a bonus.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so rigid on the quality metrics.

    Pros

Stable company with wonderful benefits. Their training programs are the best in the industry. This is a great place to start a career.

    Cons

There is zero work/life balance with micro-management of every aspect of the job. Workers can expect to work very long hours to just meet minimum requirements. The job requirements change frequently and workloads increase with each change. The company has no loyalty to long term employees. They work their employees until they burn out and then push them out the door. 100% is considered the minimum goal.

    Advice to Management

This is a great company that has lost sight of the value of their workforce.

    Pros

Good pay, decent schedules, good work life balance, good benefits

    Cons

Promotions may be difficult to come by.

    Advice to Management

For the most part management does a good job at handling employees and there day to day duties. They show concern for your personal and career growth.

    Pros

Very stable fortune 500 company. Competative pay, room for advancement and development. Customer focused.

    Cons

Company is very top heavy. Not all leadership is qualified to lead staff. Tuition remimbusement is non existent.

    Advice to Management

Individual contributors should be included when implementing no processes and guidelines. There should be a formal training class for external leaders.

    Pros

good benefits. reasonable pay. They company is like a highly efficient, lean mean machine. They most financially stable, best run, insurance company. This company do not bow down to any one or any other company. Seriously, it is either their way or the highway.

    Cons

Like any other company, you need to network and work smart, otherwise, no matter how hard you work and how long you have been there, still counts for nothing. Not enough team building activities. The management are very good are picking out and remembering any employee's faults and shortcomings, no second chances to change that in their minds.

    Advice to Management

Nothing, honestly the managers are well qualified They do a good job of carrying out company objectives, whether employees like it or not.

Account Managers and Account Executives considering employment in the Houston office should really reconsider.

    Pros

Great benefits! (401K, Health, Dental, Pension, Paid Time Off); I as impressed to see how generous the company is at investing in charitable organizations such as United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and Jr. Achievement to name a few. Employee participation is highly encouraged.

    Cons

Many of the positive company reviews for Travelers are from employees located in Headquarters - Hartford, Ct. However, the Houston office is nothing to be desired. At many levels, management has turned a blind eye to the high work load and poor morale that hovers over this department. As a result, turnover is excessive!! Seventeen employees have left the company (from this department alone) since January 2013. When employees leave, their work load is distributed (unevenly) to the remaining employees, most of whom have been with the company less than a year. Training sucks! If you ask 3 different people the same question you will get 3 completely different answers. I won't bother getting into the office politics but just know that it is a bit extreme in the Houston office.

    Advice to Management

Senior Management needs to recognize that until changes are made to get competent leaders in the Houston office, the turnover will continue and the business will suffer. Fostering healthy relationships is important but the desire to be friends should not supersede the needs of the business. Get to the core of why you can't keep people in this department, then make adjustments!

    Pros

    - Great benefits, you get health/401k on your first day. - Clock-in, clock-out, do what you're told and you'll be fine. - Management from the main headquarters in Hartford seems to have noticed the morale issue/ethical violations, and after their inspections, opportunities for promotion/morale is beginning to improve. Talking to a local manager about morale problems/ethical violations is useless, so first try to talk to local HR. And if they are un responsive, call the anonymous ethics violation hotline.

    Cons

    - Terrible ethical violations in the CCS department management, and punishment for employees who speak out. - Rampant favoritism. Every company rewards people who network, but veteran employees are passed over for benefits and opportunities in favor of employees who chat with managers. An employee who had been with the company for less than two months, and had been out of training for two weeks, got employee of the month despite other employees having similar scores. - Employees are told to mention problems or concerns, and employees who do so are told to get over it or get a new job. - Nobody in local management seems to care about the lack of morale. An example of employee appreciation: employees were required to attend a pep rally on-site through their unpaid lunch break, and employees who expressed concern about not getting a lunch break were chastised. This was reported to the anonymous ethics hotline, and local management was upset that this had been reported. It's *finally* beginning to improve, but don't talk to local management--and I daresay, not even local hr--about issues. Call the anonymous hotline. - Honestly, if you work in Houston, you should find a job in a better part of town. Despite being outside of the Central loop, traffic is horrible in either direction, and the locale is depressing/seems unsafe at night. Thefts from cars in the employee parking lot.

    Advice to Management

Houston management will lie to your face about business practices, and they punish employees who speak up about ethical violations. Schedule surprise meetings. Allow employees to speak out anonymously.
