    Pros

    Travelers has an amazing claim university in Hartford where they will fly you to receive first class instruction. As an attorney I have found this training to be unique and it definitely breeds confidence in my practice. Travelers lawyers are high caliber to the person so you get to meet a great group of interesting people during training sessions and other conferences they will send you too. Travelers has great oversight of its attorneys so you have regular input in your files. The management is made up of high quality and extremely bright attorneys so the opportunities for creative and stimulating exchange are multitudinous. They are more than fair in compensation with substantial bonus opportunity. Overall this is a very fair company and an amazing position.

    Cons

    As with any Nasdaq corp. there is always the possibility of getting burned by decisions made levels above your head. Travelers is probably as good as it gets in terms of communicating strong ethical guidelines which gives the lawyers protection. Nonetheless there seems to be a love hate tug of war with claims at times as the adjusters vie for ever greater access to the files. Travelers has struggled to implement a respectable practice management program since I have been there. The current model is at best a work in progress and shuts down every night at 11:30. A huge problem if you are trying a case.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    According to our ethics manual claims should not have a role in human resource evaluations of counsel. This should be made clear to that organization at all levels.

    It's a big community and everyone is very friendly. If you wanted you could spend your entire career there.

    The things that turned me away from Travelers is that it is the insurance industry and doesn't always lead to the most exciting work.
