    Pros

Travelers is the most family friendly organization I have ever worked for. I loved that there were many women and young professionals. I really enjoyed the work and would definitely recommend applying while in law school!

    Cons

Some of the offices are practice area specific and this could lead to you being pigeon holed into one practice area.

    Pros

Excellent movement for growth. Friendly management and employees. Rewarding work. Definitely a place where you feel that you can stay for a career.

    Cons

Can get really busy during end of fiscal year. Renewal policies for insured can get stressful. Brokers also tend to get on your back.

    Pros

The people at Travelers are wonderful. No one hesitates to drop their work to help others, even if they are not on the same team or division. It always felt like a community environment than co-workers.

    Cons

Seeing how it is generally a conservative company, ideas that are "outside the box" tend to not be very receptive, especially with people who have been in the company for a long time.

    Advice to Management

Increase marketing because the brand awareness is not there, even though it is such a great company that offers great products.

    Pros

This was a great opportunity to earn good money and to learn very much about insurance, writing building damage estimates, and building construction techniques. Most of my coworkers were very helpful and friendly. The job required substantial travel so this was also a great chance to collect hotel points, airline miles, and rental car points. The training offered at this company is excellent and continual.

    Cons

Working on an insurance catastrophe team requires long hours every day away from home for weeks (or months) at a time. It can be difficult to be away from home for so long. The job stress could be very high sometimes. Avoid this job if you're afraid of heights (or if you're unwilling to face your fear of heights). Hail storms and windstorms are common types of catastrophes so looking at roof damage is a daily job requirement.

    Advice to Management

No advice. I enjoyed my time on the catastrophe team and I felt appreciated and valued by management.

    Pros

Large company with lots of opportunities to grow and learn.

    Cons

Sometimes it can be restricting learning certain skills in such a large company where areas are so specialized.

    Advice to Management

Great job thus far. Keep heading in the right direction and keep attracting young talent.

    Pros

Work, people, compensation, leadership! Work-life balance

    Cons

Some leadership tends to be dictatorial - limited field authority.

    Advice to Management

Allow your mid level greater say in how they rate staff and in compensation and bonus discussions

    Pros

Travelers is a company that truly invests in good people and cares about it's employees. My experience with this company was a refreshing change from what I had previously experienced at another Fortune 500 insurance carrier.

    Cons

Given the nature of the ever changing business world, it is not uncommon for Travelers to react quickly to changing trends in the marketplace with restructuring, and even layoffs. Having said that, this company has shown great compassion for those who are laid off.

    Advice to Management

Continue focusing on selecting and retaining great talent while showing the customers that Travelers is a company they can count on.

    Pros

Friendly down to earth and smart people. Some ability to work remote.

    Cons

Little professional advancement opportunities are offered. This means talented people could be left in the same position forever!

    Advice to Management

Job postings should be available to internal employees and given fair assessment before hiring from the outside. There is great talent and giving someone that opportunity would create growth for the employees and the company as it matches talent with advanced jobs.
