    Product Manager

    Product Manager (Current Employee)
    Cupertino, CA

ProsGlobal view of business. Technical driven.
Product and Technical is the center of the company.

ConsVery little resources if your products are not "strategic".
When you have the resources, you will need to make progress very quickly or you are done.
However, when you have resources, there will be many back-seat drivers....

    Comfortable place with no direction

    Senior Engineer (Former Employee)
    Cupertino, CA

ProsGlobal company with unique culture. Get lots of chances to work with people around the world. Time-off policy is flexible with good work/life balance. People there are nice and willing to help.

ConsCompany focus is in Asia so basically not too many career opportunities in Cupertino site. The company direction seems unclear even though keep hearing the same/similar slogan. Conservative management maybe relate to company stock being listed in Japan Nikkie.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally need a dedicated CTO with strong technology background.

Company getting ready to be sold

    Pmm (Current Employee)
    Cupertino, CA

ProsEasy to coast and be comfortable and not have to work too hard

ConsCompany loyalist are being fired right and left in favor of Wael's team of people from Third Brigade. Rumor has it Wael is lobbying for the CEO position so he can turn around and sell the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake Wael the CEO and allow him to sell the company..a company that has lost its edge and innovative spirit.

    Nice try, but falls flat

    Human Resources Member (Former Employee)
    Cupertino, CA

ProsThe desired culture is one of collaboration and very hi-context communication and interaction, which is great if you can get that to work. They also paid me quite well for a job that was nearly impossible, something I didn't know until after I started.

ConsThey have pie-in-the-sky expectations about their culture and no real understanding of how to implement change. Their overly matrixed organizational design created confusion as to who owns what and who reports to how. Worse, no one could ever implement anything because you really had to have total buyin from everyone, which is rarely if ever possible.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet over yourself. Learn how to make hard decisions and treat the business like a business, not a daycare with needy children whom you feel you have to coddle with every whimper.

Big on talk, but not going anywhere...

    Marketing (Former Employee)
    Cupertino, CA

ProsGreat open door policy with Exec team
    Strong virtualization security product
    Great antivirus for desktops, servers
    Opportunities to try new things

ConsSalaries lower than other tech salaries
Culture has changed dramatically over last four years since Third Brigade acquisition and no longer feels like a family
Musical chairs at Exec level and no real accountability for results
Lost innovative edge a long time ago
Still only an antivirus company--but security is much bigger than just AV

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure your actions match your words in terms of how you treat your employees. CEO should manage business instead of product roadmap. Evaluate culture and see if culture change is working for you.

Work/Life balance is good, but no room for growth/development

    Marketing (Former Employee)
    Cupertino, CA

ProsFlexible, good work/life balance, good medical benefits, depending on the group you work in great bosses

ConsConstantly changing the structure and leadership of the company, lack of direction as a company, they let people go and don't try to keep their talent, no room for growth or career development

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to come up with a strategy and stick to it so that their people can be effective.

Top leadership lacks education and knowledge to support company growth

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Cupertino, CA

ProsThe middle management teams are usually competent, and low level staff keep the company from running aground.

ConsNepotism abounds within this organization. Top leadership are either 1) family 2) people who agree with family and never oppose the constantly changing direction of the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to people who have opposing views- they have industry experience and expertise. Running one company into the ground does not make for expertise.
