I worked at Trend Micro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is very good for the area, I loved all of my coworkers and had great relationships there. Team builders occur every quarter. The company helps out with students by covering some tuition. Training is also available. When I left the company, they had just started offering classes to improve skills for things like Microsoft Office.

    Cons

The only complaint I have is that some of the sales reps can be a little pushy or may not know what they are talking about.

    Pros

Enjoyed working with the the people in various departments. Benefits are very good, work-life balance can be achieved, executive management is understanding about family time

    Cons

Remote positions are very minimal. You need to be located either in Ottawa, Dallas/ Irving or Cupertino unless you are a field sales/ engineer employee. Not big on promoting from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should really work on using the PDP better. If it's a "corporate" initiative and the employee is asked to do the work on the front end, management should be reviewing it on a quarterly basis to ensure they are staying on track and can be promoted, otherwise they just become another employee.

I have been working at Trend Micro full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great medical coverage and free lunch on occasion. Pretty area of town.

    Cons

Dishonest managers, so focused on keeping their jobs they don't do their jobs. Will lie to HR and others to protect themselves and only have use for employees when they can benefit from them. No promotions, senior employees are paid well below market and only clique members get raises. Unprofessional behavior from managers is common place. Raises are 2% if you get one. Secrets gossip and spying on coworkers is common place

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire qualified people, pay employees what they are worth and get rid of managers that talk like Donald duck to their employees. Create a culture that can be trusted and make employees feel valued. Follow the policies you have all the time not just when it suits you. Survey employees on managers, morale and training. ...odds are you might learn something

    Pros

Leadership understands what is needed to move forward and is empowering employees to make it happen.

    Cons

Some things are still more complicated than they ought to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do your best to keep things simple

I have been working at Trend Micro full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Knowledgeable people, exciting technology, excellent benefits and training. Teams are always willing to help customers and come up with solutions to meet needs. Middle management listens and will go to bat for you.

    Cons

Low Wages. They do not pay market rates and they are unwilling to make adjustments. New hires are offered much higher compensation while dedicated and loyal employees are stuck with 2-3% raises if any (some years no raises) even with excellent reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loyalty should be rewarded and not assumed. Retaining those you have invested in will yield greater rewards in new sales and allow you to quickly adjust to changes in the market or customer needs.

I worked at Trend Micro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

With a good boss and in the right department, there can be some really interesting work. Because of how disorganized Trend is, there are lots of opportunities to branch out into areas that don't technically fall under your job description.

    Cons

Trend loves to lay people off. Management seems to think that employees are interchangeable, so they will lay off people in expensive locations and then **try** to rehire in a less expensive location. The most disgusting thing I have ever seen was at an all-Cupertino employee meeting with management, including the CEO (Eva Chen). This meeting was a few weeks after a large lay off. When the executive team was asked the whether or not additional there would be additional lay offs in Cupertino, the response from the executives was ... laughter. Three executives passed the microphone back and forth between themselves laughing and not answering the lay off question.

Also, lots of nepotism, cronyism and racism among the Asian executives . Incompetent Asian executives/managers are kept on because they are part of "the family".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a professional management team and lay yourselves off.

I have been working at Trend Micro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Product, engineering is very good. If "build it and they will come" were true Trend Micro would be on top. Superior security solutions and approach.

    Cons

Sales, Channel and Marketing direction is all over the map. Changes to work force taking place quarterly for last three years. No stability. In what was described as the "year of the partner" Trend Micro is pulling back on and forgetting to have an appreciation for what were key partners. Channel management not a respected profession inside Trend Micro sales culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay the course on what was working. Double down on Channel. Stop the knee jerk reactions.

    Pros

Close to home, easy commute, near retail and entertainment.

    I worked at Trend Micro

    Pros

Working for this company had perks such as free meals and occasional bonuses. Job satisfaction depends upon the assigned department.

    Cons

Very fast paced and disorganized. Many of the managers were unprofessional and there is a lot of nepotism within the promotion structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring friends and family and start doing your jobs.
