I have been working at Trend Micro full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Been with the company for 2+ yrs. Joined the the company due to office proximity to my parents, and what I hoped would be a challenge job with room for personal and professional growth.

    Cons

People are being promoted and let go not because of their abilities and contributions, but because who they know or not know. Some questionable things going on between people and their managers affecting morale. Unless your with the crowd and the management parachuted in from Ottawa, and willing to lie for them, you're likely to get marginalized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house and put in ethical management

I have been working at Trend Micro full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

convenient location, benefits, insurance is lower cost. vacation time is normal for industry

    Cons

Does not promote from within. Very insecure positions, lots of turnover. Hostile work environment. Changes take forever to actually happen. Only upper executives can obtain any bonus or promotions. Raises are minimum once year, not based on performance.

I have been working at Trend Micro full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

some interesting work, some good people.

    Cons

The company seems to lay off people as a solution to problems. But laying off people and hiring new people won't always solve the problem.

Mgmt lacks any kind of direction. They just don't know what to do.

And unfortunately, there is a lot of short term memory going on. People are not always accountable. So long as you know the right people, you are safe.

I agree there is tons of politics and there is lots of nepotism and cronyism.

And unless you kowtow to certain upper management in North America, there aren't any real career opportunities. It's best if you are Canadian also.

And pay/compensation is way below market.

With the lack of effective accountable management, this company will likely close or be sold in the near future. The problem is who will care to buy such a dysfunctional company?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Certain mgmt. people are promising meeting certain goals. They should be accountable if they don't meet those goals. Don't just forgive and forget. After all, the people below them are being fired and laid off because upper mgmt. did not meet those goals. The people below them are just following orders, they don't have control over the decisions being made.

I worked at Trend Micro full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent people - especially from Asia - a truly trans-national company with a corporate culture that combines the best of Taiwan, US, Japan, China, Philippines, Canada, Germany, ...

    Cons

While Trend Micro has successfully re-invented itself several times over the last 25 years, it's not clear it will be able to do it this time (shift from "gateway & endpoint" network security to "data center & user device" network security)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen better to your sales engineers and regional sales managers. Your prospects know more about your future than your product developers and senior marketing strategists.
