I have been working at Tribune Company full-time

    Pros

Good experience, great exposure to the field. Great chance to jump in and learn.

    Cons

They work you like crazy. 50 hr weeks are not uncommon. You'll work weekends. Working 7 straight days also not uncommon. Your weekend will change constantly, so don't make plans.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At least act like you care about the people who work for you, or maybe they won't leave so frequently.

I have been working at Tribune Company full-time

    Pros

Sharpened decision-making skills and sense of urgency. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

Company in a declining industry with an extreme focus on cost-cutting. No raises in the last 4 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share more information with all levels of management. Disingenuous to spin how well we're doing one day and lay off employees the next. Good ideas are not only found at Senior Management level. Entry and Mid-level managers who are closer to the day to day activity could provide insight on how best to reorganize or trim operations.

    Pros

The company is just going downhill. Imagine the parent company stripping the publishing companies of their assets and making them pay for it

    Cons

Too much workload, constant layoff. Constant change in organization and structure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You all need to go back to the drawing board, except you all don't care anymore. Remember employees are your most valuable assets

I have been working at Tribune Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I have been working at the Trib for about 3 years now and I must say I was pretty excited about joining the company, the culture is pretty good, very relax environment, a huge perk is being able to Work from Home, pretty handy when you have small children. Pay is relatively good. The people I work with are pretty knowledgable, environment is good and it offers great challenges in a good way. People are very willing to share what they know with you so that is always good.

    Cons

Poorly staffed, thus long working hours, working for a company in the advertising business requieres a lot of changes because there are always new ways to sell. Very hard to move up or get promoted, you must fight to get a promotion, because it is very unstable people are leaving and their positions never get back filled.

    Pros

Company is trying hard to reinvent itself. They are looking for talented employees and want to find the next great idea that will keep them alive. There are opportunities for hard working, smart, talented individuals.

    Cons

The hours were long and the expectations were unreasonable. It often felt like everyone was rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic because the senior management team didn't really know where they were steering the ship. The benefits were average, but seems to be getting worse as the performance of the company worsened. They pay was generally average, but could be above average if you were willing to work the long hours.

I have been working at Tribune Company

    Pros

Prestigious, great national identity. Fun perks.

    Cons

Promotions are damn near impossible without leaving the company. Bonuses or anything merit related is a pipe dream. You can stay forever as long as you turn in mediocre work all the time. Way too much management to get anything actually done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being risk-averse because you're afraid of rocking the boat.

I worked at Tribune Company full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Free parking on weekends
    Great benefits

    Cons

Coming is splitting into 2 companies and with this leads to the politics and layoffs. The Tribune had every intention of ending the newspapers off to die, but lied to us about job loss. We were told they were maintaining the staff in technology that they have, but yet are doing sniper layoffs to stay out of the news.

Also, the systems while good, are a mess, departments work in Silos and there is no communication, therefore systems such as the data warehouse get impacted by changes to other systems and the warehouse jobs fail because nobody could reach out and include us in the change. It was a fun place to work when they were a strong company, but as soon as the split started, it has gone downhill with layoffs of people and others leaving. If yo uare not going to the new Tribune Media side, I would stay away from Tribune publishing....it is being sent off to wither away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue about things, your employees are an asset! You would have no company without employees, how about treating them better than giving 1 day notice of a layoff.
