I have been working at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Committed to excellence and growth in their markets. Tuition reimbursement program. Many opportunities for employee development within the company (lean training, team training, management training). I have been fortunate enough to move up several positions during my tenure, from shipping and receiving to a more technical position. Time off and profit sharing are excellent, insurance is good.

    Cons

Lackluster for most in promoting from within. While their benefits are top notch, salary is a bit mediocre. Easy to get stuck in the same position or not move between departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on employee development and growth. Provide clear growth paths and programs to help employees understand what needs to be done to move to another position they may wish to pursue. Increase in salary would also help to get the best candidates.

I have been working at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They do work hard at connecting new divisions. New acquisitions are the fastest way to add new technologies. They are open to new ideas.

    Cons

Too disconnected to be leveraged. Better sharing of technologies is necessary. They also don't always tell theater about big wins.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

After working for Trimble, I honestly cannot think of one legitimate "pro". The pay was competitive, so I guess this is a "pro". Oh yeah, they provide a select few with a cheesy chinesey Trimble jacket once a year. Yep, this would be "pro" number two.

    Cons

Making the decision to go to work for Trimble was a huge decision for me and my family, and a mistake and a major setback for me. They have no system or method for on-boarding and nurturing new employees, and when it is time to leave the company you will be treated like cattle (ok maybe less than cattle). Treatment of their employees is very sad and over time I am sure this type of behavior will adversely affect their brand.

Company values are exceptionally poor. The hiring process is very informal and not well thought out, and neither is their employee exit process.

Leadership should be more involved with their team's goals and expectations, but they seem to be running scared (because of pressures from Wall Street) and have no time or energy to guide, mentor, or communicate. The company culture is overall very weak and non-supportive of their employees or channel partners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I recommend: better communication, training, mentoring, and some level of humanity and caring for your employees. Also, think out your strategies before implementing them. Be sure all resources are available before launching new initiatives. Stop shooting from the hip and be more systematic. Heighten your level of professionalism by training your leadership on how to manage and lead professionally.

I have been working at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    *Same job for 15 years
    *Great benefits
    *Laid-back atmosphere
    *"No dress-up" environment
    *Flexible work hours
    *Reasonable PTO accrual

    Cons

    *No career development plan
*Managers don't know how to manage - and some are totally inept
*Will not hire people in positions where more people are needed - tend to overload the employees with too much work
*Too much focus on college education for hiring! Need to look at experience too. (Just because someone has a masters degree in a totally unrelated field - does not mean they are great management material
*Managers often stick heads in the sand hoping a problems will just go away

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your heads out of the sand...and hire better managers. Try people who are qualified to be managers - and if you just want to hire people who have a great education as a manager...get them proper management training. Tell them to shut up when they want to talk about their personal lives at work. We don't really care. We just want you to support us. We don't want to hear about your ski trip or your kids in departmental or product meetings! We are here to work.
