I worked at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    1. Trimble shuts down twice a year, giving ample time off (some of the time is charge to the employee, whether you like it or not).
    2. Many travel opportunities since Trimble is a global company.

    Cons

    1. Culture is horrible! CEO encourages in-fighting to see who rises to the top.
    2. Communications within IT is non-existant.
    3. Complete lack of standards and processes in IT and support of the users.
    4. IT management can't make a decision to save their lives.
    5. Performance reviews are a joke! They don't occur!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Scrap the entire Corporate IT management staff, from the CIO (acting) down. Make a conscious effort to develop an IT function that operates with a vision and mission and one that operates with standards instead of the "wild, wild west" approach in place today. It ain't workin' Steve!

I have been working at Trimble Navigation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great People, good office culture, growing company with advancement potential

    Cons

Cumbersome processes for nearly all areas; lack of formal training- fake-it-until-you-make-it mentality for entry level where only the best/fastest learners survive.

I worked at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits, flexible work schedules, good people.

    Cons

Depends on your division, of course. Mine lacked vision and execution for how to organize ourselves and work best to get the job done. Extremely cumbersome change management process, project management process, etc. Separate systems contained the same information over and over for different purposes, very frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Smart people with good instincts were the only reason everything didn't fall apart. Don't underestimate or undervalue your people. Also, make the processes make sense.

    Pros

Employees are pleasant and you can definitely have a work-life balance working here.

    Cons

It's an older company that doesn't have the "perks" of the younger companies, but it's a very stable company.

    Working in Trimble

I have been working at Trimble Navigation

    Pros

People at Trimble are pretty laid back. They are very easy and most of the times fun to work with.

    Cons

Communication between divisions could be better, this would help leverage technology better within the company. Not always but often times I have found one or the other division re-inventing the wheel when there's already a team who has all the knowledge and expertise ahead of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are doing a great job. But if they were to improve it would be on training employees more on cutting edge technology so that Trimble isn't dragged in to something with little or no experience in it.

I worked at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Cool technology and no deadlines.

    Cons

They are seriously understaffed and put people in positions in which they have no knowledge or experience and the company will not provide training. Managers choose whether to do performance appraisals or not, mostly not. If you are a exceeding nice person who never questions anything and can take the blame for bad management decisions, this is the place for you. Knowledge and experience is not required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start believing your second Trimble value: aggressive entrepreneurial-ism. Stop shooting the messenger.

    Pros

A good balance of work and life, good product, nice colleagues; dynamic and robust.

    Cons

Lack of motivation, sometimes it looks like a large multinational company, sometimes it looks like a startup by judging from its behavior.

I worked at Trimble Navigation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good work life balance. Good management. Many opportunities because the company kept acquiring new business.

    Cons

Managed by silos, so you may feel lacking of support from other business units. The culture is not collaborative enough.
