I worked at True Value full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Management was thoroughly dedicated to community and flat out doing good business. We strived for an atmosphere and to provide a service to keep our customers coming back, and were successful in doing so. Work was fast paced and demanding at times, but extremely satisfying.

    Cons

Employee schedules seemed difficult to coordinate, especially in such a small business.

    Pros

Amazing customer service, also has the ability to order almost anything.

    Cons

Some of their truck drivers are a little on the grumpy side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Amazing management, although I believe that it is time to upgrade the electronic side of their company.

    I worked at True Value

    Pros

Customer based, the people really like their job. It's fun to see how your advice helps make peoples lives easier.

    Cons

It is though to move up in position beyond a manager. Although that is a pretty high position and comes with good responsibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They're doing a good job. I think they need to inject more finances into the stores and help with promotion and advertising to further customer awareness.

I have been working at True Value full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The pay is above average in the surrounding area. Training depends on what department you are in. Once you learn how the system works you will do great. The people are nice, friendly, and helpful.

    Cons

No overtime allowed at all. If its not spring time, dont count on any overtime. There are times when managment tends to micro manage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider hiring people that want to work not just a paycheck. It costs more money to keep hiring people and training, then it does to hire a quality employee.

I have been working at True Value full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company has a new CEO (1 year in) and is working on creating a new strategic vision, involving the WHOLE company in decisions. The company launched new values about a year ago. People who say they don't have a culture/values haven't taken the time to listen, because they are broadcast everywhere. They value training (internal and external) and people really do care about you. If you work hard, make yourself known (promote YOURSELF people...no one's going to do it for you), and focus on growth and development, you'll go far in this company.

    Cons

I agree that some managers have a long way to go. I am hoping with the new strategy that a lot of "old thought" is flushed out. I'm also hoping that more people are hired, as we all wear many hats and can be stretched thin.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you're looking at your Manager/Director level. A lot of them aren't as great as you may think. It's the individual contributors who make this company what it is right now.
