I worked at Tucows part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company is client/employee focused, you could work from home and still make decent salary.

    Cons

It is completely commission based, if you strive hard to develop a disciplined approach to sales you will make it, entry level sales agent will find it difficult to breakeven without much experience in this job.

    Advice to Management

management should consider paying some form of salary/commission and invest in more training for the entry level recruits

I have been working at Tucows (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A growing company with a lot of runway. The work is interesting and we work in interesting and, in some cases, exciting fields. All levels of management are accessible, right up to the top, to all levels of employee. There are some great opportunities for advancement within the company. Tucows is an inclusive environment where disrespect for people is not tolerated. In my experience you get the autonomy to do things without someone looking over your shoulder but guidance, a sounding board or direction is there for the asking when needed. The company legitimately cares about the people that make it what it is. Tucows is an established company but there's a certain start-up approach and buzz surrounding some brands and projects.

    Cons

Health care benefit package isn't great. Rather than covering expenses for things like dental care or glasses, the employee pays out of pocket and claims the money back. This "health spending account" (HSA) has the benefit of 100% coverage, near instant reimbursement and flexibility of costs covered, but it's not hard to exhaust the amount available and end up paying out of pocket.

    Advice to Management

Take a long look at certain long-established departments that resist change. Too often, it feels like that's where good ideas go to die. Communicate more regularly with the team at large to get everyone pulling in the same direction.

I worked at Tucows full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Occasional free food. Clean office with nice equipment.

    Cons

Predatory and exploitative employment practices. Constant mind games played management. Harassment by management who are act especially creepy with female employees. Terrible culture though they constantly boast how good it is. Clueless. Employees who do the least work are promoted based on favoritism and no actual legitimate performance reviews.

    Advice to Management

Full house cleaning of upper and middle management is required.

I have been working at Tucows full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Occasional free lunches. Nice office facility with free coffee, tea, filtered water etc Decent benefits and vacation time offered.

    Cons

No matter how fast you are working or how early you start or how much overtime you contribute its never enough. Constantly harassing people to do more. Not really appreciate of those that do. No real metrics or legitimate evaluations given by managers and vague performance feedback provided Promotions based on who are the current favorites of management, who appears to be most visibly sucking up, not who has done the most quality work. Some people hand picked for promotions without opportunity for others to apply. Horrendous communication issues within company. Lots of contradictory info scattered all over various lines of needless communication "tools". Upper Management constantly interfering and micro managing employees and even middle management who are given no real authority or trust to handle the most basic of decisions. Employees input and opinions not recognized and often decisions are made at upper manager's personal whims. HR in complete collusion with upper management and does not feel like a safe place to speak on issues though they claim 'open door' policy. Terrible and short training plan ensures new people hit the floor completely unprepared and overwhelmed with limited and stretched support. Increases attrition.

    Advice to Management

Stop pretending you have a cool open and hip culture when in reality its classist, stale and has cliques. Stop interfering and let the people you supposedly trust do their jobs then provide constructive feedback. If you hire people for tech support make sure they at least have some technical background.

    Pros

Tucows is the definition of a positive work environment. Managers respect and encourage innovation, and they actually act on suggestions to improve the user experience.

    Cons

If you're looking for an easy job where you can coast, you won't last long here. Tucows requires a passion for what you do. Side Note: A lot of the negative reviews about Tucows were based on a manager who no longer works here.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

    Pros

Small company with access to decision makers.

    Cons

Employees don't have a say in anything. Feedback is recommended but not considered. Employees are treated like they don't have a life outside of the workplace. Customers first and employees maybe after.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and treat them better than you treat customers.
