Former Employee – worked at Tully's Coffee
Pros – Small enough to feel like family, Tully's can be a great place to work, for awhile. It's easy to root for the underdog and Tully's and it's employees always feel like a great underdog story while you are working there. Employees bond together and rally to give great service.
Cons – Tully's disfunction starts at the top and trickles down. Communication is non existent from Sr. Management and often marketing plans look a little bit like they were chosen with a dark board in the dark. Pay raises are non existent and employee reviews which were once conducted annually at a minimum are no longer part of the company's priorities.
Advice to Senior Management – Take care of the frontline employees on whose backs the company's future rests. They are your heart and soul and your most neglected resource. And for better or worse, chart your own course and stay it no matter what.

Current Employee – been working at Tully's Coffee
Pros – It all depends on the store and who your manager is... working for Tully's can be great or it can be torture. Great customers, decent benefits, generally good co-workers, free coffee, flexible scheduling, and the ability to hone your skills in customer service (should you choose not to be annoyed by everyone who walks through the door) are what keep me there.
Cons – Communication is essentially non-existent from the top all the way down. You'll notice from the moment you set foot into new hire training that the company is very disorganized; systems and standards are often put into place but there is no follow-through, particularly if you get stuck with a bad manager (and there are several.) There are no raises unless you get promoted, and in general the company is cutting back on hours to try to save on labor costs, so full-time can be hard to come by.
Advice to Senior Management – Examine your store managers. Don't just evaluate them based on customer reviews... get into the stores and see what employees have to say. You'll find that some of your most popular managers customer-wise are often deplored by the majority of their staff, which leads to bad store morale and generally reduces the quality of customer service. Furthermore... follow through. If you put out a new product to test, be sure to provide your stores with the materials to successfully market it (training, signage, etc.) If you instate a new standard, check in and make sure it's being followed by the manager on down. Give your employees reviews and raises... or at least some positive reinforcement. We are your most valuable asset, and yet for as long as I've been with the company we've never been treated as such. How can we take care of the customer if you won't take care of us?

Former Employee – worked at Tully's Coffee
Pros – The hours were very flexible so it was perfect while going to school!
Friendships were made with other employees.
It was fun to see daily returning customers!
Cons – It is hard to move up. I was promised to be promoted to Lead Barista for two years. When my manager finally promoted me it was my first pay raise in two years... it was disappointing being promised something and have to wait so long...
Advice to Senior Management – Please make sure to promote those who are doing lead barista work... it is not fair to have 'baristas' do the work Leads do when they are not being paid the fair amount for the extra work they are doing.

Former Employee – worked at Tully's Coffee
Pros – The staff (field & corporate) are dedicated, creative, hard-working, and supportive.
The opportunity to work on several projects, not necessarily tied position or department.
The coffee is excellent.
Cons – Several changes in leadership and company's direction were costly, disruptive, and challenging for staff and customers.
Communication, particularly between leadership, corporate staff, and field often challenging and incomplete.
Advice to Senior Management – Provide clear vision and communicate with staff more effectively. Provide teams with the appropriate planning time and tools to carry out objectives and promotions.

Former Employee – worked at Tully's Coffee
Pros – They provide good coffee and a usually fun work environment.
Cons – The management team is typically looking out for themselves rather than what is best for the company. Without the leadership of Tom O'Keefe the company really struggles to know where they want to go.

Current Employee – been working at Tully's Coffee
Pros – The company was very good at allowing for time off requests and really worked with my schedule.
Cons – Management is not always supportive at the Corporate level. My example has to do with my paycheck. On three separate occasions, my paycheck was not distributed. I was given the excuse that they didn't recieve the info in time therefore it was not cut. However, instead of cutting me a check, I was told I had to wait until the next pay period. If you have bills to pay, this does not work.
Advice to Senior Management – Employees are generally unconcerned about raises and reviews. I was not given either in my 1 1/2 working there.

Current Employee – been working at Tully's Coffee
Pros – it's a very easy job. free coffee on breaks beneifits. It's fairly easy to move up in the company. flexiable hours
Cons – the pay is terriable. Management doesnt appreciate the employees. The customers can be very rude. It's a job for teenagers.
Advice to Senior Management – Take better care of your employees. We work very hard and deserve raises after 2 years of hard work. We carry the company show the baristas some love.

Former Employee – worked at Tully's Coffee
Pros – Easy work, if you enjoy people and their eccentricities and don't mind your co-workers being so bored they do little things to mess with customers and you. If it's a good store, the camaraderie is somewhat like middle school, but the staff is technically older.
Cons – boring routine is a great day. if your manager is a hard-ass the job is mostly painful. If your manager isn't a hard ass, your job is more bearable but still relatively dead end.
Advice to Senior Management – I would suggest that they try harder to eliminate inefficiency, but since the company is mostly a cheap rip off of Starbucks, that might be hard. I would recommend firing senior staff and closing all the stores that are hemorrhaging money.

Former Employee – worked at Tully's Coffee
Pros – There is a lot of room for growth, In the right stores, you get a lot of hours, Very upbeat staff. Great Pay
Cons – The only real down sides is sometimes when a lot of Baristas are on the floor at the same time seniority definitely kicks in and some places pool the tips so the morning shifts dont always get the money they earned.
Advice to Senior Management – Divide the tips up according to hours worked and shifts worked. And play attention to how some of the girls treat eachother
