Pros
Great benefits...flexible schedule including every other Friday off
Cons
Overall good place to work and no real complaints
Advice to Senior Management
Enjoyed working at Turner, good environment and competent resources
Pros
-Hands on assignments
-Real work life experience
-Got to meet CFO and other VPs within the company
-Free Braves Game!
-Fun after work activities
-Microsoft Excel Training
-Great mentoring program
Cons
-Did not do as much accounting as I anticipated (I am an accounting major)
-Did not have enough work to do in the beginning
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure that there is enough work for the interns to complete over the entire summer.
Pros
TBS offers a good number of benefits (health, welfare, work/life programs) and has a diverse portfolio that ensure there are always opportunities available in another part of the business.
Cons
There was no clear career path or indication that high potential employees were being identified and developed during my time there. The size of the organization can make it easy to get lost, unless a senior leader takes notice of you and personally becomes invested in your development.
Advice to Senior Management
Career pathing and succession planning is certainly happening within senior levels of the organization; make it visible to mid-level managers and provide them opportunities to self-identify their interests, experiences and needs. The likelihood of finding more individuals in the middle of the organization who would make great leaders in senior roles are high!
Pros
Great benefits. Good for the resume because of the brand.
Cons
Parts of the company are toxic.
Advice to Senior Management
I've seen some quality employees let go and weaker ones stay or get promoted.
Pros
Exposure to top brands, strong company with diverse product line. Good outlook for the future provided they can make right choices around emergence of Internet TV as the next big thing
Cons
Very bureaucratic and political. Can be frustrating to anybody who wants to grab the bull by the horns and get things done quickly.
Advice to Senior Management
Ferret out the bad actors and kick their asses out. Hire and promote the best talent instead of trying to satisfy diversity goals. And speaking of diversity, the one group that the company doesn't value is older employees. Lots of young MBA/Masters types with enthusiasm and education, but not enough real world experience and chops.
Pros
Casual work environment geared towards promoting creativity. The casual, laid back atmosphere is conducive to increasing productivity and workers morale.
Cons
Sometimes for interns there was not a lot to do, which is not a bad thing if you are getting paid. However, for an unpaid internship it would be nice to be able to stay busy.
Advice to Senior Management
Move us around more through the different departments.
Pros
Top of the line benefits and support for employees.
Cons
Easy to get lost in the crowd here - and lots of duplication of effort. A definite throw more people & money at the problem attitude towards new projects.
Advice to Senior Management
Real need to select quality VPs & leaders for new projects. Lack of experience among senior management - and lack of direction from Turner HQ - was really the downfall of our department & new product.
Pros
Benefits and pto. Techwood. Events.
Cons
Salaries, review structure, HR policy limits your ability to succeed or even care about what you do.
Advice to Senior Management
Top heavy.
Pros
Benefits are far and away the best part of working at CNN these days. The satisfaction of working at CNN with little to no career advancement is killing the staff's will.
Cons
Rating are in the tank as is staff morale. From the anchor, Executive Producer all the way down, people are not excited about their work
Advice to Senior Management
Shake it up. Fewer staffers to management. Go back to the CNN model and do away with the corporate stiff attitude.
Pros
Exciting business, smart people, leaders in the industry
Cons
None that make me unhappy
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
