Former Employee – worked at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – It was a great place to learn about your industry. Turner encouraged professional development classes within its organization. Upper management was very accessible to support staff and those people above them. The organization also allowed moms to work from home one to two days a week. The perks that were offered were incredible.
Cons – It's quite difficult to move up because most people don't leave. Often times, you sat in a certain position longer than the industry average because turnover for the most part was low.
Advice to Senior Management – My experience at Turner was good.

Current Employee – been working at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – Great people, great pay, great benefits
Cons – Creative drives the ship regardless of cost or common sense.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen more to the people that run the machines, and meet somewhere in the middle. the "client" relationship is a tired OLD model. We all work for the same company.

Pros – The projects are really interesting and the benefits are fantastic. The company is very supportive of its employees. One of my bosses really understood work / life balance, and as a whole the company does too.
Cons – Turner is slow at adopting new technologies they could be more innovative. Some departments are inflexible about certain policies such as telecommuting.
Advice to Senior Management – Foster more innovation. Allow more flexible schedules. Encourage folks to be more entrepreneurial. Be more green.

Current Employee – been working at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – - Flexibility with work schedule
- Empowered to determine own solution
- Able to work on many different parts of the business (IT)
- 401k matching is excellent
- Vacation/PTO is better than average
Cons – - Limited management at upper levels (upper mgrs/directors unavailable and not willing to take a stand in difficult situations and allow teams to figure things out on their own)
- More importance stressed on diversity instead of getting the best solution/person/etc.
- Health care coverage declining each year
Advice to Senior Management – Don't be afraid to promote overachievers, even if they don't fit the mold. Likewise, don't be afraid to let the underachievers go.

Former Employee – worked at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – Very horizontal structure. In other words, you can quickly advance as the company has a heritage of building businesses around good ideas. These ideas can come from any where in the company.
Cons – Somewhat limited by corporate structure of Time Warner. The environment is one that takes fewer risks than in its "heyday" when they were launching new businesses right and left.
Advice to Senior Management – Tap into existing employees ... lot's of institutional knowledge that goes unheard.

Current Employee – been working at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – The company is really good in terms of benefits, competitive salaries (on the business side at least), a company outing at least once a year, transportation reiumbursement, employee discounts at stores, gyms, etc.
Overall, the people here are great, and seem very happy working here. Turner does a good job about making employees feel good about working here, and makes efforts to encourage life/work balance. In the last year, HR has done a good job about bringing more programs to work, like yoga and weight watchers.
The office environment is business casual, and while office hours are 8:30 - 5:30, there are summer Fridays and perks like that.
Cons – It's difficult to move up based on merit alone, rather promotions are given to those who have "stuck it out" longer than others. For some upper management roles, there is little turnover, and these people have been here for over a decade. The company needs some fresh ideas, new blood.
From what I've seen, there is also little interaction between various departments, and people can't move between groups that easily as I haven't seen too much hiring from within.
There is very little help in terms of career development, or graduate school aid.
Advice to Senior Management – Smart move finally letting AOL go, and for the company to be doing this well during a recession, then they must be doing something right.

Former Employee – worked at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – Great benefits. Good direct managers. Works with employees for work/life issues.
Cons – Promotions are few and far between. Becoming like working for the government with so many processes in place.
Advice to Senior Management – Look to the inside for ideas and stop bringing in people from the outside to fill important roles.

Current Employee – been working at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – Company benefits are great. And very good perks for the employees.
Cons – Poor management in the IT department. Very top heavy, and they do not know what they are doing.
Advice to Senior Management – Way too many VP's, Directors and Managers. And the ones that we have do not have a clue. And that goes all the way to the Sr VP. If they can't run the division then get rid of them. It is what they would do to the workers. If job performance and success were the determining factors in job retention then pretty much all of them would be gone.
And hire more workers. We need more developers, pm's, and testers to accomplish the work. It becomes quite obvious when they can't approve vacations or personal time off for the workers. But the VP's, Directors, and Managers are running into each other all the time with nothing to do.

Former Employee – worked at Turner Broadcasting
Pros – They offer good training and benefits
Cons – Little opportunity for growth and very low pay
Advice to Senior Management – Restructure salaries for support staff to be more competitive. Promote people for sales and leadership ability and not because of what kind of suits and ties they wear.

Pros – Great Benefits, Nice people for the most part, nice location (Atlanta), some opportunity for advancement, Reputable company, good perks (like free sports tix)
Cons – depending on your specific job the pay can be slightly less than comparable positions within other companies.
Advice to Senior Management – Take a little more time to examine employees individual concerns.
