Pros
Salary is a little above the market. They throw company parties regularly. They require disciplined individuals that can get the job done.
Cons
It takes years for proper advancement. They expect you to be loyal and work hard but then lay you off. Eighty hour weeks is regular. Management team is a bit toxic. Animosity between employees on projects. Throw each other under the bus when ever they get a chance. Salary is horrible in consideration to the hours put in. Vacation time is ridiculous, they scold anyone that takes more than three consecutive days off. Reviews are a joke, usually done by someone that is not your direct supervisor.
Pros
Great people and benefits. Rewarding opportunities
Cons
New youthful movement of inexperienced staff replacing more costly experienced staff.
Advice to Senior Management
Go back to core values
Pros
*Benefits
*Great Company Name to have on the resume
*Everyone is willing to help you
Cons
*If you arent interested in construction it could be hard to deal with.
*Construction Management is basically another word for babysitting grown men, that is very frustrating
Pros
Great place to get a experience and to learn alot. Friendly atmosphere and some open communication with management. Benefits are great.
Cons
Younger employees are always disregarded and don't get much respect. All departments are not given the same respect. Employees are not compensated as they should.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to take younger employees into consideration. As they say, the younger employees are the future, but actions speak louder than words.
Pros
Stimulating projects with opportunities to grow knowledge & experience.
Well-rounded company with broad business vision.
Cons
Company culture can sometimes stifle creativity.
Pros
If you ask for challenges they will look for ways to give it to you. Although you may not get all of the mentoring you want. Thus it is a great place learn. Great network of people. They have a good internal on demand training website.
They do a good job of moving people around the departments in a effort to develop well rounded employees as they move up the corporate ladder in preparation for senior management.
It is a large company where you can transfer to other offices, although it is not easy.
Overall people are very professional and pleasant to work with.
Cons
Corporate HR pushes work/life balance via emails and news letters, but it is not enforced. Since typically it is face time that determines good performance reviews and salary/promotion increases, the culture discourages working a 40 hour week. The inside joke is that your work and life can still balance at %90 and %10 respectively.
Salaries are not competitive.
They tend to be cheap about fringe items like Turner labeled promotional items.
Pros
Great Projects, people, structure, and the ability to work on many unique projects.
There is some ability to bounce around between the different groups, but you have to really try.
Cons
They make you get caught in a trap where if your good at one job, you keep doing the same type of job over and over again.
Compensation is really bad. There really is no intensive.
Advice to Senior Management
They really need to figure something out about keeping employees excited. Also employees in the office are treated much better then the people in the field. Lastly, compensation is extremely bad.
Pros
There are several opportunities for continued education, professional growth and development and sharing information among employees. The Turner Knowledge Netwrok (TKN) allows for online courses to be taken and certifications to be obtained. It is very flexible and able to fit within your schedule.
Cons
It is a large organization and there are many people, so often times you may be less an individual and more an employee number. I think the large population of employees is beneficial when it comes to the amount of knowledge available.
Advice to Senior Management
More diversity within the company would be good for all involved: employees, employers and the clients that we work with. From diversity in age, to race, to gender, I think Turner could stand to consider reevaluating their current practices.
Pros
I was given several opportunities to expand my knowledge. They provide online courses to learn about the industry and Turner practices. The courses were easy to navigate and definitely beneficial to the development and growth of my knowledge base.
Cons
There aren't many cons that I observed that I can comment on. I enjoyed my work experience there. It would have been nice to see a more diverse workforce. Women were truly lacking in the engineering roles. Possible recruitment of more talented women would be a suggestion.
Pros
The atmosphere that surrounds you is something to love. The people also make the work seem like something to pass the time. The access to resources is amazing and the acquisition of work is ongoing. Jobs basically come to you.
Cons
The only cons I can describe was the site location. It was a little far from where I was staying and really hit the wallet in terms of transportation. Although this is outside of the control of Turner, it is my only gripe with my experience there.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer some form of living stipend or moving assistance for Interns. People who may really want to work with the company but can not due to location can really lose out because of this.
