Benefits package is better than most competitors and lots of projects throughout the country. Options are

    Cons

As a large company it comes with the bureaucracy associated with it. Multi-level organization spreads responsibilities between too many people sometimes and decisions are not clear. Fortunately, people are very easy going and reasonable, and will give clear directions to find the answers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication between upper managers and midlevel managers are not great, staffing needs not addressed to the best of their abilities and sometimes it feels like actions are more political rather than for the greater good of the company/employee. Work on the big picture .

    Pros

Smart leaders and followers, vast knowledge network available for all employees. Large projects to build and sense of comraderie amongst the project teams.

    Cons

Not concentrated at obtaining true engineers (professional engineers with licenses). Some SPD employees do not get the proper training needed to succeed (sink or swim mentality). Too many levels in the corporate heirarchy, which is indicative of a large corporation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company is top heavy. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Former Employee - Assistant Project Engineer (Intern) in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

Competitive pay. Great place to gain valuable experience. Looks amazing on a resume and is highly respected by its competitors.

    Cons

When internship was completed, all correspondence was cut off. This left me feeling dissatisfied and reluctant about wanting to work at Turner again. It also makes me hesitant about recommending Turner as an employer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reevaluate internship program and devise manner in which to maintain communication with previous interns. Even if they are not desired for future work, this should be communicated to them so that both parties know where they stand with one another.

Current Employee - Construction Project Manager in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

The construction management group within Turner is finally getting the recognized. The on-line training has improved over the last 5 years since I have been at Turner.

    Cons

The work at LAUSD is the bread and butter account, but you get trapped. It is difficult for the Senior Management to provide protection and support for the client's unprofessional way of conducting business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would recommend placing employees who have worked on the PM side at LAUSD on the new school construction projects because of their clear understanding of the contractual requirements plus the knowledge to navigate through a huge bureaucratic system.

    Turner Construction: A Stable Company

Current Employee - Assistant Accountant in Anaheim, CA

    Pros

Turner may not be some sexy company to work at, but it offers good job stability with effective managers able to secure big and small projects for employees to work on.

While Turner is a company of 5000 employees, its different offices scattered around the major cities operate independently, making it easier to stand out for promotions.

Turner offers the standard perks including an ancient perk that's been eliminated by many older companies, medical retirement insurance.

    Cons

There are 2 different working environments here: office and field. While the office is your typical workplace, working in the field can require you working in cramped trailers and using portables.

Working in construction just isn't very sexy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try being honest when the business is slow and we're not winning any new projects.
